Project Description
For the last 20 years we've been making masala chai for coffeeshops, stores, and our booth at the Saturday Chico Farmers' Market. We brew and blend everything from scratch in our tiny chai brewery in my hometown of Chico.
We’ve completely outgrown our current space, but luckily we’ve found a bigger one. It’s a bit of a fixer upper, with good bones and a great location.
This new building also has room for our newest project - Chico Chaihouse. A beautiful space where you can come in, relax, and enjoy a cup of tea. We’ll of course be serving masala chai, and also matcha, tea lattes, and a new lineup of house-made teas, like Chico Breakfast Blend and Lavender-Chamomile. Plus we’ll have a menu of nourishing, delicious toasts from local ingredients with vegan and gluten-free options.
Tea in its basic concept, is essentially plants steeped in water, which is inherent to all cultures. Often, in modern times, it’s a chance to sit down, take a deep breath, and reset. Conversations over a pot of tea can bridge gaps and deepen relationships, whether it’s with friends, colleagues or even people you disagree with. In this time of disconnection and divisiveness, we’re creating something unique, reflected in our mission statement: “to make and serve delicious tea with integrity and kindness in a beautiful, inclusive space to foster reflection, connection and conversation in our community”
And here’s where you come in! We’ve been growing steadily every year, but for a step this big we need community support. Any contributions will go toward raw materials, renovations, teahouse items and hiring more staff to make and serve tea. With your help, we'll open this fall!

- Q: How do I contribute?
- A: From the main page of our iFundWomen campaign, click 'Fund It,' and select the amount / reward you would like!
- Q: Do I get anything for my contribution?
- A: Yes! We have a selection of tiered rewards to show our appreciation for any amount you may want to contribute. Any contribution will earn their name on our donor appreciation board at Chico Chaihouse.
- Q: When will I get my reward?
- A: We don't have an exact date, but you can start collecting your rewards as soon as we open the doors to Chico Chaihouse. We're estimating that will be early August. Certain rewards will be scheduled, like our soft opening party, and donors will be notified when that event is assigned a date.
- Q: Can I donate a custom amount of money?
- A: Yes! To customize your contribution without choosing an award, choose the 'Monetary Contribution' option. Your name will still be included on the donor appreciation wall (if you want it there!).
- Q: What happens if we don't meet our monetary goal?
- A: Luckily if this happens, we will get to keep any money we earn (thanks iFundWomen!) and all contributors will get their promised rewards.
- Q: How will the funds be used?
- A: We will be using the funds we collect to cover raw materials and labor for the opening months of Chico Chaihouse. For more information, please reach out to us and we will be happy to dive in to the details with you.
- Q: Is there a deadline to contribute?
- A: Yes, the deadline for contributing is set at May 25th at the moment, but we can extend the deadline if we need to.
- Q: How do I stay updated on the campaign and progress on Chico Chaihouse?
