Breaking the status quo in games by creating games that move you and offer a new insight into life as a whole.
Captilight is a diverse, inclusive game studio that creates story-driven games. By developing creative, thought-provoking and emotionally driven stories in our games, we aim to captivate a broader audience of like-minded players who can gain a new perspective, support each other and aspire to live a passion-filled life.
The Problem
The majority of games in the marketplace are heavily focused on genres surrounding violence. A handful of games like The First Tree, GRIS, and Journey have more than proven a market need for non-violent thoughtful games. But we need more...and we need a team that can represent the full spectrum of gamers.
Studies have shown that 41% of gamers identify as women but women represent only 24% of game developers while 5% are transgender or identify as other.
Captilight’s Solution
Captilight is a women-founded and minority-led team composed of a diverse team of innovators and professionals passionate about offering wonderful games with exciting stories that players can enjoy and cherish. We bring expertise from a combination of the tech and games industry, ranging from artists, programmers, designers, and more. We are also our own customers and know how hard it is to find games that are both impactful and entertaining.
We are working on our debut game Path of Kami which follows the spirit of recently-deceased Japanese wolf Kazeyo as he navigates the trials of the Spirit World, in order to ascend to godhood. He is accompanied by a Wisp, a wolf spirit embodying his mother, who is there to guide him on his journey.
Path of Kami is inspired by exploration-puzzle games like Journey, with the aim to create a memorable and beautiful world for the player to explore, alongside brain-teasing puzzles to solve and an engaging story to discover.
Note: To ensure our storytelling is respectful and accurate, we've been working with Japanese cultural consultant Kazuma Hashimoto.

"This is a solemn piece, and its journey will stay with players for a while despite only being a Prologue." - Happy Gamer
"There’s plenty of room for this sort of game, especially where the focus is exploration and solving puzzles." - Vulgar Knight
We are currently working on a Prologue for Path of Kami, funds raised through this campaign will help cover software development costs.
Funds from this campaign will be used towards our prologue. Right now the Prologue is 80% complete, primarily requiring gameplay polish and art assets, and we estimate it will be complete by summer 2021. The funds from this campaign will cover our development costs until then. The prologue will be offered for free on the platforms mentioned above.

Why IFW?
We choose IFundWomen because its a very flexible platform and with this being our first ever crowdfunding campaign we wanted to lessen the burden of any mistakes we make! Additionally, they support women entrepreneurs in so many ways. Other than providing an awesome supportive community and coaches they use 20% of IFundWomen’s online fundraising fees to pay forward to other minority-led businesses, and we love the virtuous cycle of funding their model creates!
Risks and Challenges
Thankfully we have completed a majority of our gameplay systems and mechanics. All the features we've mentioned and have planned are within our scope and skillset, we just need the time and the means to put in the work! We know you may be hesitant to back a studio and their first official game, but we are confident in saying we can deliver this game to you and we'll try our absolute best to make you proud! We have an experienced and talented team that is passionate about making this game with you! As with developing our demo, we will continue to be fully transparent throughout the development of the game. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!
