Article: Why We're Making Path of Kami

Hi everyone! Thanks for tuning in, other than updates on the campaign we also want to start doing updates sharing more about us and the game. So why not start with WHY we’re making Path of Kami.

If you’re wanting to go even deeper to how our studio was created check out our blog on our website here. It goes in-depth about why Captilight was created and our intentions with the studio. Okay..back to the game!

The team is extremely passionate about games with thoughtful stories that give you the FEELS. And we wanted to make a game that centered around emotional game design and have elements of our all time favorite games like Abzu, Journey, GRIS and more.

In the early stages of the design process we knew we wanted to have a theme of “relationships” in the game and worked hard to center our game mechanics and story around that. Although your off on an adventure and solving puzzles, a focus of the game is to get to know your Wisp friend and how they are related to you. Where did it come from? Why is it with you?

You’ll get to know your wispy friend and unravel a beautiful story around their relationship, without spoiling too much we can say its a heartwarming story that we can’t wait for everyone to experience (and for us to make!)

There are so many games out there that surrounded by violent game systems and we wanted to take a new approach by offering an experience that is relaxing, casual and thoughtful. We really hope you enjoy the game!

We asked the team what gets them excited about Path of Kami and here are some of their responses:

Jose Beltran: “Honestly… Everything! I really like the mechanics, the music and the sounds of the game are coming out in an amazing way thank to our audio team, we have a beautiful story, the graphic style of course, the way you can have a nice time exploring the environments and enjoying the small things we are putting there for the players to discover.”

Barbara Sotolongo: “I’m excited about the effect this game will have on players. I know it’s going to change the way people think about video games and will expand the casual gaming community. I’m most excited to know that Kazeyo’s journey to ascend will help heal individuals, especially folks that have recently suffered a loss of someone close to them.”

Mark Choi: “It merges everything that I’m passionate about in life and that is quite unusual to find. I’ve already mentioned narrative adventures and RPGs; I’m also a massive lover of Japan, as well as art styles adopted by powerhouses like Studio Ghibli such as cel-shading. So… This really is the perfect combination for me.”

Janet Doan: “I’m really excited to see how the story will be implemented in the game! I think story is one of the most important parts of a game. Also, the puzzles! I love puzzles!”

Thank you all so much for joining and taking the time to read this <3 We hope Path of Kami will be a meaningful experience for all of you!

Thank you so much for helping Path of Kami become a reality!

Cheers,

Captilight Team
