Project Description

God-ish Skin - a homemade, clean ingredient, unisex skincare brand - was developed by esthetician Tova Palomino. God-ish Skin represents the actual labor of love, featuring 11 staple products designed to treat problems including dryness, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and oiliness.

After spending several years in LA pursuing a career in modeling, Tova developed a passion for holistic skincare while working on products that were effective and natural. After many failed attempts at finding options in the store, she decided to make her products and quickly captured the attention of her friends and colleagues, who inquired about her skincare regime. God-ish was Tova’s way of treating her Skin and how she found purpose during a confusing time in her life. For this reason, a deity is an inspiration behind every God-ish product. It’s her way of remembering how far she’s come in her spiritual journey and growth.

God-ish serves as a way to empower those with darker complexions to tend to their skin with natural and healthy products and gain access to luxury (but affordable) skincare products.

While growing, black women’s representation in the skincare industry still has a ways to go in. Only 3% of American estheticians are black women. Black women and men, historically, have shied away from certain skincare brands because they didn’t feel represented or prioritized in terms of companies making an effort to preserve the natural beauty of their skin. With God-ish, this stigmatization is getting erased by offering a product designed to help black people care for their skin and specifically designed with them in mind.

According to an article from Essence magazine, Black women know beauty. An overwhelming 82 percent of black women say it’s essential to be well-groomed, and 52 percent of black women adhere to a set skincare regimen. African-Americans spend $1.2 trillion each year, and that number is projected to rise to $1.5 trillion by 2021. In 2018 the Black hair care industry raked in an estimated $2.51 billion, as Black consumers have progressively switched from available products to those that specifically cater to them (like God-ish). In 2017 African-Americans captured 86 percent of the ethnic beauty market, accounting for $54 million of the $63 million spent, Nielsen reported. In 2017 black women also spent $127 million on grooming aids and $465 million on skincare.

Knowing black women are the trendsetters of the beauty space, God-ish has put together a team that is the definition of #BlackGirlMagic, so we know our audience and wants and needs in skincare products. God-ish Skin is currently a small but mighty team. We have a designated person to make, bottle, pack, and ship the products, handle our public relations and communications, create graphics and social media posts, and a person to manage email marketing. Right now, our system is acceptable for the flow of orders we receive, but the goal is to grow, and we want that because our community needs this product. However, as with anything, growing requires financial backing.

Right now, God-ish Skin is exclusively offered in Tova’s spa, Skincare By Tova, in Florida and online. We want to dedicate resources to conduct media outreach and invest in more staff for faster production and shipping.

We know that there are many skincare lines out there, but what sets us apart is our drive and passion for ensuring black people are using products safe and healthy for their skin. As with any start-up, while admirable, a small business can’t sustain off passion alone, so we thank you for your consideration to help us grow and further develop into the brand we envision God-ish to be. One of transparency, luxury, and prove results.

Thank you!

Is there an expiration date on the products?

  • We have no expiration date but we do suggest that the products are used within 3 months.
