After living in the Rivertowns for five years and aching for a specialty cheese shop, I realized that it was time to open my own.*
PC: Luis Ruiz PhotoI have run Bloomy Cheese & Provisions as a pop-up inside the wonderful HudCo coworking space since last November and am ready to move on up to Cedar Street.
Bloomy will be a full-service specialty cheese and provisions shop featuring the finest cut-to-order American and international artisan cheeses, a thoughtful selection of pantry items, and a rotating set of handmade homewares and cheesy gifts. It will also be a place to meet up for a glass of wine and a cheese plate, source a platter for a gathering at work or home, find the perfect gift for the cheese lovers in your life, and attend cheese tastings and other classes.
But Bloomy is more than just the sum of these parts. "Bloomy" is me; my family name is Bloom, and friends who have known me forever call me "Bloomy." It also evokes the vast microbial community that makes special cheese what it is. So Bloomy is the special place we make of it, together. Bloomy is about lactose, and tolerance.
Your support of this vision will help bring it to life. I am renovating a legendary specialty food storefront on Cedar Street to make it as welcoming as possible, a place that feels like home for all who enter. I can't wait to have you over. Thank you so much for being a part of this community!
PC: Arielle Joffe Photo*But I don't come to this decision casually! I have spent a decade in the food world following my Masters in Food Studies at NYU (ask me about my thesis on cheese consumption during pregnancy), working in cheese shops and cheese caves, managing an American artisan cheese shop and wine bar on the Upper East Side, helping upstart food brands get off the ground, and running communications at the Stone Barns Center in Tarrytown. I have also been the chair of the Dobbs Ferry Downtown Committee since 2018, and believe that one of the best ways I can personally contribute to greater vibrancy in the downtown area is by opening my own business there.
