Women's Sports Chicago
Empowering women to own their game, WSC provides women of all ages and skill levels with quality sports training, leagues, and community.

Project Description

Women's Sports Chicago (WSC) is Chicago's premeire space for women's recreational sports leagues, training, and community. WSC provides a safe space for women to compete, have fun, stay healthy, and to make new friends. We offer soccer and basketball programs to women and gender minorities of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. We host 300+ women on a weekly basis and have served 2,000+ women in Chicago through our sports programs.
Taking Action
In 2012, WSC started as a Meetup.com group in hopes of providing more opportunities for women to play quality recreational sports in Chicago.
Women’s sports leagues were not consistently available in the city of Chicago at the time, and after growing tired of being mistreated in co-ed leagues, founders Veronica McAllister and Elyse Cleveland took action. The reception of the group was immediate, and many women expressed wanting more playing time, quality competition (equal to the guys' leagues), to be taken seriously, to learn a sport for the first time, and to build friendships.

It's Her Game
As one of the first to the women's recreational sports space (a relatively untapped market), our team is driven by our passion for sports and female empowerment. Our team consists of three women, supported by a small staff of dedicated part-timers. We have built a solid community with a reputation that speaks for itself. Our goal is to continue offering a safe space for women to compete, stay active, and have fun through sports. We can do this by offering new sports beyond our soccer and basketball leagues. The ultimate goal is to build our own facility. We also hope to inspire other women to do the same in their cities.
