Hi, I’m Bri — Founder of Velour Cottages
I started Velour to create affordable housing for young adults in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Housing has always felt like a heavy burden — for myself, and many around me. As someone who’s struggled to live independently as an adult, I knew there had to be a better way.
The Problem
Young adults in our area — working professionals, creatives, and first-time renters — cannot afford to live independently without relying on roommates or staying at home with their parents. Stable, dignified housing options are out of reach, and the dream of building a life is slipping further away for too many.
Our Solution
At Velour Cottages, we’re designing modern, cottage-style homes where rent is capped at 35% of income — helping residents build wealth and peace of mind.
Why We’re Raising $275K
This funding will help us:
- Buy our first plot of land and cover monthly payments
- Pay for a land survey , title search , zoning verification, and rezoning (if the budget permits)
- Set up a custom domain, email and business cards
- Invest in early land-based income initiatives to raise money for the next building phase
This is the foundation of our first community build.

👕 Can I choose between a t-shirt , mousepad, OR mug?
Yes! At the $125 tier and above, you’ll be able to choose your preferred reward between a t-shirt , mousepad, OR mug once the campaign ends. We’ll send out a survey to confirm your selection, size (if applicable), and shipping address.
🚚 Do you ship internationally?
At this time, we’re only able to ship physical rewards within the United States due to cost constraints. However, international supporters can still donate and receive digital rewards like shoutouts and thank-you messages!
🧮 How many people need to donate to reach the $275,000 goal?
We’ll need a mix of support across all tiers, but for example, 2,200 people donating at the $125 tier would get us there! That said, every dollar counts — whether it’s $25 or $1,000, your support brings us closer to breaking ground.

Absolutely. Sharing the campaign on social media, telling friends and family, or simply following our journey means the world to us. Spreading the word helps us more than you know!
✨ What makes Velour Cottages different?
We’re not just building homes — we’re building a movement. Velour Cottages focuses on empowering young adults who are often priced out of independent living. We believe that having a place to call your own shouldn’t require excessive income, roommates, or moving far from home.
📅 When will the cottages be available?
Our timeline depends on funding and permitting, but we aim to secure land by the end of the year and begin building in the following phases. Early supporters will be the first to receive updates and hear about pre-leasing opportunities.
🧾 Are donations tax-deductible?
Currently, Velour Cottages is not a registered 501(c)(3), so donations are NOT tax-deductible. However, all funds are used strictly for business development and the creation of affordable housing.
📬 How will I receive my reward?
Once the campaign closes, we’ll email all eligible donors to collect their shipping information and any customization details (shirt size, reward choice, etc.).
