Our Story

Keeping You Sweet was started shortly after my Mom's passing. She was a caterer and an awesome cook and baker.  One of the things that gave me peace and comfort during my grief, was seeing her handwriting in her recipe books. I started using her recipes to bake her favorite desserts. Sometimes, I would bake large quantities and give them to organizations to help them raise funds. I donated 450 mini cakes to an event being held at NJPAC called, "A Taste Of Newark" and after the event I received a strong demand for my all natural cheesecakes with no added sugar.  I asked a friend, who owns a food business, if he could refer me to a restaurant or store that might carry my cakes. He suggested I reach out to a contact that he had at Whole Foods.  I never in a million years thought that I would be in a supermarket, let alone Whole Foods. To make a long story short, they invited me to partner with them in one store, and 2 weeks later offered me 5 more stores. My products will be in all NY/NJ/CT stores by 1st quarter 2021.

About Keeping You Sweet

Keeping You Sweet (KYS) produces delicious all natural baked goods that are always gluten free with no added sugar and vegan options. KYS was founded in 2017 and the production facility is located in Hawthorne, New Jersey.  Keeping You Sweet currently sells cheesecakes and brownies that are gluten free with no added sugar to Whole Foods Market.  We have introduced a vegan line to focus on the growing demand by customers for vegan desserts.  We have also introduced customized sweeteners on our e-commerce site, allowing our customers with special dietary needs to select an all natural zero glycemic sweetener.

OUR FOUNDER

KYS was founded by April Harris who is 1/3 of the platinum-selling 90s girl-group Seduction. April's food business experience was nurtured by her late mother, Georgia Beatrice Harris, who owned a successful catering business.  April earned a BA in Communications from Howard University and has studied Holistic Nutrition.  She plans to continue her education by enrolling in The Institute for Integrative Nutrition this Fall.

Use of Funds

The funds that are raised will be used to increase production:

55% will go towards the cost of hiring and on-boarding employees for production, packaging, delivery and virtual customer service.

20% will cover the cost of scaling our production to include a partnership with a co-packing facility to produce our mini vegan cheesecakes.

25% will cover the cost of industry certifications; gluten free, vegan, organic, non-gmo.
