Untangle Money is the starting point for getting comfortable with money and personal finances. The MINI Self-Serve is an affordable online, self-guided Money Planning program for middle-income women who want to be more confident and less stressed about their Money.

Untangle Money combines financial literacy, budgeting and retirement planning in one program to help young women build a Money Plan that fits their Now and Future money needs.

What Problem does Untangle Money solve?

Untangle Money solves needing to learn about money, budgeting and investing for retirement from three different sources and then figuring out how to apply what was learned in real life. If money basics and investment knowledge were not passed down by your parents, it can overwhelming and confusing to learn it and put into practice.

Talking to a professional can be expensive, intimidating and embarrassing. Social media is full of “helpful” people but can you really trust them? Getting started is hard.

Getting started is hard because women feel

• stupid for not knowing more about money and investing
• judged for how they choose to spend their money

• they are not rich enough yet to start
• the fear of losing money and being taken advantage of

Current and traditional Financial Planning methods DO NOT work for middle-income women

• They don’t address the need to balance day-to-day spending (Now Money) and investing for the future (Future Money)
• Projections do not reflect women's longer lifespan and lower earning potential
• Cookie-cutter advice is designed for the needs and situations of more affluent people and adjustments are not made for someone with less money to invest
• Professionals are not incented to spend more time with less affluent clients explaining riskier investment options more thoroughly. Recommending the safest and most conservatives investment can lead to missing out on long-term growth 
• Financial planners, Investment Advisors and Financial Literacy coaches only provide one aspect of money learning, requiring people to do three times the work to learn and put it all together

How the Untangle MINI works

1. Collect and input your financial information - like balances from your bank accounts, credit cards, retirement savings, investments and pensions etc
2. Confirm assumptions for the future - like retirement age, how long your money should last etc
3. Review the items that have the biggest impact on your future savings
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to see how changes to assumptions can impact your future
5. Identify your 2 unique Money metrics to remember 

You are guided through the program with clear instructions, helpful hints and words of encouragement. We sprinkle moments of wellness throughout, making the process more empowering and less stressful.

We do not provide financial advice or recommend specific investments. We do recommend and suggest companies to get started with.

To keep us unbiased, we do not get paid by any companies we share information about.

Based on the information available, we recommend companies with the lowest and most transparent fees, are easier to navigate and/or have supportive customer service.

Untangle Money reduces the wealth gap by including middle-income people in the financial conversation. We help them feel more comfortable, confident and in control of their Money. Why Women?

Women face different challenges when it comes to money.  We pay more for goods and services, (known as the pink tax).  We work in industries that pay less overall and earn less for equal work. We are also more likely to take time off to care for family members. As a result, we don’t accelerate in our careers as quickly as men do.  All of this adds up to the Gender Wealth Gap.

Our solution is designed specifically for younger, middle-income women. Everyone is welcome.

The Untangle Money Team

When Untangle Money's founder, Kristine Beese, was an engineer, she didn’t know what to do with her finances.  When she went to the bank, she had a condescending conversation with an employee that left her feeling pretty small. Later she got her MBA and spent her next 15 years working in the finance industry. (If you’re curious – she worked on Canada’s largest trading floor, then became a stock analyst, and later, she invested money for wealthy Canadians). 

She is joined by a dedicated powerhouse team that is changing how financial services are delivered.
