Who is TriCord Ranch Foundation?

TriCord Ranch Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit which strives to create a sanctuary where people can reclaim their lives after experiencing trauma, learn essential life skills, and can contribute to their community and the world. Through everyday challenges and skills encountered on a ranch setting, we aspire to guide individuals in discovering positive ways to process their trauma, navigate their world and interact with others. We aim to impart essential life skills, foster community engagement, and promote global contributions to our participants. TriCord Ranch Foundation is dedicated to being able to offer all services to our clients and program participants free of charge as Oklahoma has one of the highest poverty levels in the US. We are working to fund our services and facilities through grants, corporate partnerships, and financial donations. Effective 12/3/23, we are launching Cord One Urban Trials, which is a no-cost three-week program where a team of 7-11 participants work with a volunteer trainer daily within the Oklahoma City Metro Area. Participants will be expected to complete daily assignments, physical training and tasks to strength mental fortitude. Participants will be expected to contribute at least 10 hours a week of community service.  Please visit tricordranchfoundation.org for more information.

Funding needs

TriCord Ranch Foundation is a brand new nonprofit organization. As we are getting launched with staff and acquiring a facility, we are being funded through our Executive Director's personal savings, operating on a shoestring budget to say the least. Oklahoma's poverty rate was 15.8% in 2022, which was the 8th highest poverty rate in the United States. The dream behind TriCord Ranch Foundation is to be able to serve any Oklahoman who qualifies for our programs, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay for services.  Our primary philosophy is the process trauma through physical exertion, according to each person's abilities, and tasks to strengthen the mind free of electronic devices. We are also in the process of becoming an active part of One Health Initiative, a worldwide collaborative effort to improve the health of people, animals, and the environment. It integrates human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental science. The plans for any TriCord facility will include green energy initiatives, proactive ecological practices, establishing community gardens,  and wildlife conservation efforts.

Team TriCord

TriCord Ranch Foundation currently employs Genie Funk, Executive Director, and Terry Davis, Director of Operations, both of which will remain unpaid employees until we are able to raise available funds. We currently have a volunteer team of ten people, which includes an environmental biologist and wildlife rehab specialist, psychologist, doctor of osteopathic medicine, mental health therapists, visual artists, nonprofit experts, US Military Veterans and local missionaries.  Please visit our website for more information on TriCord Ranch Foundation staff and volunteers.

On behalf of everyone at TriCord Ranch Foundation, please accept our deepest gratitude to all of our generous supporters and funders. Your selfless contributions have moved us closer to our goal of purchasing the ideal property to house our ranch facility and construct essential bunkhouses for our clients to reside in during their journey of healing themselves. Your belief in our mission to provide a nurturing and transformative environment means the world to us. Your dedication to our cause fuels our passion, and we are extremely grateful for your incredible generosity and belief in our vision. Thank you for being steadfast partners in making a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

Why is a ranch location beneficial for dealing with trauma?

A ranch setting can be incredibly beneficial in processing trauma due to its unique environment and therapeutic potential.

  • Nature's Healing Power: Being in a natural setting like a ranch offers a serene and calming environment. Nature has a proven therapeutic effect on mental health, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The open spaces, fresh air, and connection to the outdoors can promote relaxation and a sense of well-being, essential for trauma recovery.

  • Safety and security: Ranches often provide a sense of safety and security. The quiet, secluded setting can create a feeling of being away from the chaos of everyday life, allowing individuals to feel more comfortable and secure as they explore the root of their feelings.

  • Animal-Assisted Therapy: Interacting with animals, whether horses, dogs, or other creatures, can build trust, empathy, and emotional connections. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals who struggle with trust issues or have difficulty expressing emotions verbally.

  • Physical Activity and Mindfulness: Ranch activities often involve physical movement, such as caring for animals, gardening, or even simple tasks like walking in the open spaces. Engaging in physical activities can release endorphins and promote mindfulness, helping individuals stay present in the moment, which is crucial in trauma processing.

  • Community and Support: Working alongside others who are also on a journey of healing creates a supportive environment where individuals can share experiences, learn from one another, and feel a sense of belonging.

  • Metaphorical Learning: Tasks or challenges on the ranch can be used as metaphors for overcoming obstacles or working through emotional difficulties, providing valuable insights, and promoting personal growth.
What type of property is TriCord Ranch Foundation looking for?

We are looking for at least 40 acres, preferably 160 acres, of Oklahoma native land or mostly native land to serve as the headquarters and ranch location.

What does TriCord Ranch Foundation plan on doing with that type of property?

We plan to operate our residential facility and foundation headquarters on a working ranch model.  With 160 acres we will be able to have a variety of livestock, horses, chickens, vegetable and herb gardens, fruit and nut orchard, hay fields, barn, corral, bunkhouses for men and women, 10-15 tiny homes, a mess hall with cafeteria-grade kitchen and meeting rooms, ranch store, modest Executive Director home, office spaces for partner providers, primitive campground, hiking trails, high and low ropes courses, activities field and chapel. At least three of the tiny homes will be ADA-approved as will all of the public buildings.

How will TriCord Ranch Foundation generate revenue once the ranch is established?

Our main priority will be to our clients, however, we have to remember that statistically, we have just as many potential clients still out in the community, afraid to ask for help to deal with their past trauma or whatever is causing dysfunction in their lives. Community outreach is an excellent way to introduce our programs to someone who might not have the courage to inquire for personal reasons, In addition to the grants and corporate partnerships we already have and will continue to foster, all donors to TriCord Ranch Foundation will be Ranch members, allowing them to utilize the ranch and participate in TRF programs and events at a discounted rate. The ranch store will sell ranch-produced items such as naturally-fed meat, fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, hay, TriCord Ranch Foundation merchandise, arts and crafts produced by program participants, etc. We will also have a small coffee counter where deli sandwiches and drinks will be available. We will work with local youth organizations to hold camps and retreats throughout the year. We can facilitate corporate retreats and community events throughout the year, depending on program participation.
