Project Description

At BioGold Energy, our mission is to transform agricultural waste into clean, high-efficiency bio-briquettes that fuel both industries and households. By repurposing growing rural and urban waste, we provide a sustainable alternative for boiler operations and domestic cooking, while reducing pollution, protecting forests, and creating local jobs.

Our Mission

At BioGold Energy, our mission is to transform agricultural waste into clean, high-efficiency bio-briquettes that fuel both industries and households. By repurposing growing rural and urban waste, we provide a sustainable alternative for boiler operations and domestic cooking, while reducing pollution, protecting forests, and creating local jobs.

We’re not just producing briquettes—we’re powering communities with clean energy and circular solutions for a better future.

The Problem We're Solving

Every year, over 120 million tons of agricultural waste in Africa go unused—burned in fields, dumped in growing landfills, or left to rot. Meanwhile, communities continue to rely on charcoal, firewood, and fossil fuels for energy, leading to:

  • Rampant deforestation

  • Toxic indoor air pollution

  • Rising energy costs

  • Escalating climate change

Women and children suffer the most, spending hours collecting fuel and facing health issues from smoke-filled kitchens, which are responsible for an estimated 600,000 deaths in Africa according to the WHO, and a further over 3.2 million global premature deaths annually. Industries, too, face increasing power costs and limited sustainable alternatives.

The Market Opportunity

The clean energy and biomass briquette market in Sub-Saharan Africa is growing fast, expected to reach $12 billion by 2030. With over 80% of households in Kenya still relying on traditional solid biomass fuels (charcoal and firewood), the opportunity to transform waste into clean energy is massive—and urgent.

BioGold Energy is seizing this opportunity to serve both households and industrial clients with sustainable, high-performance briquettes made from agro-waste.

What We Do

At BioGold Energy, we take what others throw away—agricultural waste—and transform it into clean-burning, eco-friendly briquettes. Our briquettes:

  • Burn longer and cleaner than charcoal

  • Are affordable and locally made

  • Reduce emissions and deforestation

  • Provide reliable energy for homes and factories

We’ve built a small-scale production model that is ready to grow. Each briquette represents a step toward climate justice, economic opportunity, and energy access.

Why We're Raising Funds

We've validated our solution and seen strong demand—but we need your help to scale. Your support will help us:

  • Purchase new hydraulic briquette presses and drying equipment

  • Set up a small-scale community production facility

  • Train and employ women and youth in our community

  • Expand distribution to reach more homes and businesses

This is more than a donation—it’s an investment in people, planet, and progress.

The Campaign FAQs

FAQs for BioGold Energy Crowdfunding Campaign

1. What is BioGold Energy?
BioGold Energy is a social enterprise that transforms agricultural waste into clean, high-efficiency bio-briquettes. These briquettes serve as sustainable fuel alternatives for industrial boilers and household cooking, helping reduce deforestation, air pollution, and energy poverty across Africa.

2. What are bio-briquettes, and how are they used?
Bio-briquettes are compact, energy-dense blocks made from compressed agricultural waste like husks, stalks, and sawdust. They are used as fuel for cooking stoves in homes and boilers in factories, offering a cleaner and more affordable alternative to charcoal, firewood, and fossil fuels.

3. What problem is BioGold Energy solving?
We’re addressing two major problems:

  • The waste crisis, with tons of agri-waste polluting our environment

  • The energy crisis, where households and industries rely on unsustainable, expensive, and polluting fuels

By converting waste into fuel, we offer a climate-smart, circular solution that creates jobs and reduces emissions.

4. Who are your customers?
We serve two main customer groups:

  • Households, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas, that use briquettes for clean cooking

  • Industries, including food processors, laundries, and institutions, that use briquettes to power steam boilers and reduce fuel costs

5. How will the funds raised be used?
Every dollar you contribute helps us scale our impact. Funds will be used to:

  • Purchase and upgrade production equipment

  • Set up a small briquette factory

  • Train and employ local women and youth

  • Expand our distribution and outreach

6. Is BioGold Energy environmentally friendly?
Yes! Our entire model is rooted in environmental sustainability. We use waste materials, reduce the need for wood and charcoal, and lower carbon emissions. Our briquettes burn cleaner, emit less smoke, and protect forests.

7. What makes BioGold different from other energy alternatives?
We are community-centered and climate-smart. Our briquettes are:

  • Locally sourced and produced

  • Affordable and efficient

  • Designed to address both household needs and industrial energy demands
Plus, we’re building a circular economy—converting waste into value.
