In 2018 when I couldn’t find quality, tasteful statement tees that were relatable to African American women, I decided to take on the task of creating a luxury line of statement tees. DossCouture was born! It gives a proud voice to brown and black women and girls’ points of view by increasing self-awareness, self-esteem, and encouraging them to find their own vision: a vision that’s expressed through our apparel.
Doss gives back to the community via local organizations that support women and girls. In addition, the Doss Boss Series an online podcast was started during the pandemic to educate women about subjects ranging from finances and mental health awareness to beauty and fashion tips using female thought leaders.
Along with the pandemic came a surge in business and support due to the recent focus on racial and gender equality and the need to speak out. Growth happened for DossCouture organically because of this movement and black and brown women and girls are proud to wear Doss messages. They are a tangible and tasteful way to speak our minds while remaining fashionable.
With this growth and support the business grew almost 200% from the previous year. Not only did we grow the ecommerce business but we also signed agreements to sell product in local boutiques. As a result an expansion in wholesale orders to boutiques across the country allowed DossCouture to grace their racks and shelves.
I am elated and thankful! My dreams have been fulfilled and I am ready to take Doss a step further. This growth will require additional manpower, resources and/or capital to fulfill the demand for DossCouture apparel. The funds being raised will jumpstart this next level allowing me to process/grow wholesale and retail orders, increase inventory and continue the great customer service while rolling out more Doss designs and supporting and uplifting women and girls.
