The Table Less Traveled encourages deeper connections with the flavors, cultures, and communities of the world. Our shared group tours and online cooking classes cultivate relationships that extend beyond tourism, giving people stories that create unforgettable memories. Don’t just observe culture, live it.
We are a women-powered team of 5 employees, uplifted by friends around the world who share a passion for making travel more memorable by uniting through our common language of food. Our small but mighty team has a passion for travel, and yet none of us have a background in the industry. It gives us fresh perspectives about the way things should be done instead of a stale status quo system. We don’t have preconceived ideas of what tourism ‘should look like’.
Instead, we craft experiences just as we like to travel - gathered with friends around a table…one less traveled.
One of our travelers said it best, “I always felt like a friend and not a tourist.” You’re not meeting a stranger via zoom or in Japan, you’re being introduced to one of our friends, and this makes all the difference in building our community. When you travel or cook with us, you become a part of our community.
What We Do Matters
People crave connection. More than 50% of U.S. adults consider themselves lonely. This impacts our mental health - from our work lives to our personal lives and everything in between. People want to belong, to have a community.
Outside of work, people often save their money for travel and 81% of travelers want to be immersed and support local. Social media and technology have led to mass tourism and an artificial concept of ‘immersive’ which drives decisions, but leaves travelers wanting more when it’s said and done.
So how are we changing this? Personal relationships that extend beyond tourism, a limited number of experiences in each destination, working with people where we can contribute to the local economy, but whose sole incomes do not rely on tourism.
Our relationships allow travelers into the homes of locals - whether through our virtual cooking classes, or meeting those same individuals in their kitchens in Italy, Japan, Peru, and beyond.
We help travelers, teams, clients come together and experience a sense of belonging and connection as seen in stories featured in the Washington Post and NY Magazine.
Throughout all of the services we provide, we focus on 3 philosophies - immersive experiences, culinary insight, and community.
We will use this funding to continue to fight against the commodization of travel and connect more travelers to friends around the world so that they can have authentic and truly local experiences.
Thank you for your support of our small business which allows us to continue deepening connections with the flavors, cultures, and communities of the world, and introducing them to you!
