Project Description
Twenty Somethin' & Black is a resource for young women, aspiring and full-time entrepreneurs, and young professionals to help them cultivate the lives they envision for themselves. Our platform helps young women learn how to navigate various areas of life through community and "good ol' girl talk. In terms of content, we focus on assisting women in advancing their career finances, fostering relationships, prioritizing health, and unapologetically exploring faith. To summarize, we like to think of our platform as a "one-stop-shop" for everything we wish we knew when we were young and pursuing our passion.
Data shows that the median white household has at least ten times the wealth of the median Black household; the average wealth in white households is six or seven times the average wealth in Black households. We hope that we inspire women - primarily black women - to not only pursue ways to make multiple streams of income but feel empowered to share their knowledge as they figure out how to do.
Similar to our target audience, our road to entrepreneurship and building generational wealth is one that we've been figuring out along the way (with a fair share of bumps and obstacles along the way). Admittedly, our approach to creating our platform was not the easiest. We wasted a lot of money trying to figure out how to make our platform profitable, but now we've figured out what works for us and have a strong team pushing us forward. We are a small but mighty team of five (an editorial lead, social/pr lead, and three contributors), publishing weekly articles and newsletters. We've also started hosting monthly book club discussions with guests hosts.
In terms of what we'd like to do, we want to gain money to help us afford more talented writers and ecomm team to help us build out our shop and develop a plan to promote and invest in a photographer and videographer. We recently hired a business coach, so surely more things will pop up (but, again, figuring it out).
