Support Recess, a Women-Owned Work & Play Cafe

Recess Cafe is a third place for working parents perfect for meeting with friends, working remotely, hosting events, grabbing a drink, and engaging with the community.

As a friend, parent, daughter, partner, sibling, aunt, employee, etc. our goal is to provide a great option to folks who are also navigating multiple identities. A space friendly to all ages without compromising on aesthetic and quality. 

Where is this going to go?

Recess Cafe is exploring location within the Ann Arbor boundary and are hoping to be located in the heart of downtown. Our goal is to provide families and friends with place to congregate after wandering the shops or hitting up the Hands On Museum where they can grab something to eat and enjoy each others company. 

Why do we need it here?

Ann Arbor is an incredibly family-forward community, but our downtown does not have a playground and our family aged population is shrinking year over year. Recess is looking to add value and ensure we can be a welcoming space to all ages so our community can continue to flourish!

So how do we make this happen?

All of this is not possible without local support. Recess Cafe is humble, hard-working, women-owned and so far self-funded. It is a dream to create this space for the community, but we are seeking financial support to get our initial build-out across the finish line.

We are currently working with all types of community members who believe in creating this space and are willing to offer Recess Cafe support to get off the ground, who are interested in donating their time to host a workshop, and folks who are interested in providing in-kind donations of furniture, art supplies, and more!
