Sun Gods is a {Bohemian•Afro•Chic} lifestyle and women’s apparel brand created by LaShawn Kenley (a Washington, DC creative and Fashion Designer). LaShawn is extremely passionate about connecting the African diaspora using fabrics, textiles and uniquely curated events. As a designer and seamstress she creates all the looks within the Sun Gods brand and currently has a team of 3 (2 other seamstresses and 1 marketing/operations coordinator) as a part of her growing team. When starting Sun Gods 3 years ago she found it very important to highlight the fashion and lifestyle of black and brown bohemes which quite honestly is consistently missing from large enterprise retail companies. She wanted color palettes that celebrated our skin tone, prints that uplifted our culture, styles that fit our unique bodies and events that spoke to our concerns and needs. Here is where she coined the motto of our company... {Bohemian-Afro-Chic} to embrace all parts of us within this space.

Currently Sun Gods is available online via our website as well as through the various pop ups we host throughout the states. Over the past 3 years we have gained much recognition through media outlets such as FOX 5, WWD (Women Wear Daily), BET, Essence, InStyle magazine and more. We even received a partnership with The W Hotel to have a monthly residency featuring our clothing and accessories in their downtown DC location! With receiving the Visa x iFundwomen $10k grant, we plan to scale our business to the next level by increasing our apparel and accessories inventory (which means making more unique designs for our customers), hosting more luxury popups to expand our reach to more of our consumers (in-person), hiring another seamstress to our team, as well as increasing our marketing efforts to use more advertisements to highlight our business. 

Our biggest goal is to move forward with opening our very own brick and mortar boutique which will be called, Sun Gods Bazaar! Here is where our customers can have a full on Goddess experience of shopping custom/ready to wear apparel as well as enjoy our curated womens gatherings/events all in one beautiful location. Pre-Covid we've hosted "Sip N Henna" wellness and self-love events, maintained financial/business meet ups to share resources and tips with other women business owners in our community as well as hosted Goddess brunches and more for our customers. As we were scaling our business through the beginning of Covid-19, we maintained all community engagement through virtual interactions which included using IG LIVES on Instagram and Clubhouse. Now that America is beginning to reopen, we are resuming 100% of our operations for both popups and events to continue moving forward with providing the Ultimate Bohemian Goddess experience!

There are so many beautiful things Sun Gods will become and we're excited to elevate and scale our business to the next level! We look forward to seeing our business become a staple for the community as well as fashion go to store for all women.   Sun Gods... (a bohemian•Afro•chic haven for all Black and Brown Goddesses to commune).  We can't wait to see you all inside the vision!
