Spark Mathics
Empower Students in Underserved Regions through Offline Digital Learning

Project Description

Empowering Education Where Internet Can't Reach
📖 Our Story
Spark Mathics began as an online classroom experiment using artificial intelligence to create simple and interactive math lessons. Although the content was basic and imperfect, it sparked curiosity and deeper engagement among students. This success raised an important question: what if the same learning experience could be made available offline?
In many remote areas of Indonesia, students still lack access to the internet, and in some cases even electricity. These students are often left out of the digital learning movement not because they lack potential, but because the infrastructure simply does not exist.
To address this challenge, the lessons were redesigned to run completely offline using lightweight HTML that works on basic smartphones, tablets, or laptops. No applications, downloads, or internet connection are required. The result is a new kind of platform created specifically for disconnected regions.
This is how Spark Mathics was born. It is an offline, interactive, and culturally relevant learning platform designed to bring meaningful education to places the internet cannot reach. With strong support from local educators and communities, Spark Mathics is now preparing for its first pilot program in three rural villages in West Kalimantan. This is just the beginning.
🌟 What is Spark Mathics?
Spark Mathics is an offline interactive learning platform designed for students in disconnected regions. It is simple, scalable, and specifically built to run on low-resource devices without internet access.
🎯 Our Mission
Our mission is to close the digital learning gap for underserved communities by delivering AI-assisted, culturally relevant, and fully offline educational tools. We believe that quality education should never depend on internet access or expensive infrastructure. Through Spark Mathics, we aim to empower both students and teachers, especially in areas where digital learning feels out of reach.
📊 The Problem We're Solving
While Indonesia's internet penetration reached 74.6 percent in 2025 with over 212 million users, more than 27,650 schools across all education levels still operate without internet access. Many of these schools also lack electricity, making digital learning nearly impossible in these communities.

This is not just an Indonesian challenge. Around the world, millions of children live in areas where digital learning remains out of reach. Spark Mathics offers a low-tech and high-impact solution to respond to these realities.
✅ What We've Built So Far
- ✓ An AI-assisted, human-curated content development workflow
✓ A working prototype of math lessons and educational games
✓ Field-tested modules that run on low-spec smartphones and tablet.
We have tested them on kid-friendly Android tablets that cost around 60 dollars.
These affordable devices can open the learning content directly in a browser, without needing installation or internet access.See the demo here: https://youtu.be/INiO51szX2c
📦 Why We're Raising Funds
We are seeking funding to launch our first pilot deployment in three rural villages. With your support, we will:
- Finalize the complete Grade 7 mathematics content
- Train local teachers to confidently use and adapt the platform
- Distribute at least 30 preloaded tablets along with solar-powered power banks
- Gather community feedback to improve and scale our model
- And ensure long-term impact for students with no internet access
This pilot will become a proof of concept, showing that even in places without connectivity, digital learning can thrive.
📊 How We’ll Use the Funds
Here’s a simple breakdown of how the $150,000 funding will be allocated for our first pilot program:
Item | Estimated Cost |
---|---|
📱 30 tablets for students | $1,800 |
🔋 Solar power banks | $900 |
👨🏫 Teacher training and local facilitation (3 villages) | $15,000 |
📚 Content development (Grade 7 math modules & games) | $40,000 |
🧪 Field testing, deployment & travel | $20,000 |
🎥 Professional video documentation | $7,500 |
🌐 Offline-compatible platform and tech support | $10,000 |
🧑💻 Technical and design team (AI-assisted content pipeline) | $25,000 |
⚙️ Management, logistics, and contingency | $30,000 |
Total | $150,200 |
💡 No Matter the Outcome, the Work Will Move Forward
We are committed to transparency and impact. Regardless of how much we raise, we will continue to update our supporters on the project’s progress, and adjust our implementation plan based on the actual funds received.
If we reach at least one-third of our goal ($50,000), we will carry out a pilot implementation in one village, including:
Develop ~1/3 of planned modules and games
10 preloaded tablets with solar power
Teacher training and local engagement
On-site field testing and community feedback
If we raise less than that, we will still use the funds to move the project forward at a smaller scale, whether it’s finalizing more modules, testing on a few devices, or training educators remotely. Every dollar will be used purposefully and reported transparently.
🔭 Our Vision for the Future
Spark Mathics is built to scale. With early results and real-world feedback, we plan to:
- → Expand to more grade levels and subjects (science, literacy, etc.)
- → Reach additional remote schools across Indonesia and other countries
- → Build an open, offline-first library of AI-assisted educational tools
- → Empower teachers to become content creators, no tech background required
🙌 A Note to Our Supporters
To every supporter, thank you. Your belief in inclusive education helps us bring learning to places where it is needed most. With your help, students in even the most remote locations can gain access to meaningful and interactive lessons. You are not just funding a project, you are helping to drive a movement forward.
As a token of our gratitude, every backer will be acknowledged in the official documentary video of the Spark Mathics pilot. This video will be produced and published on our YouTube channel after the implementation phase, provided that we reach our full funding goal. We want your support to be seen, remembered, and celebrated.
Let us spark change together.

The Campaign FAQs
❓What is Spark Mathics?
Spark Mathics is a digital learning system designed to work completely offline. It provides fun, interactive, and curriculum-aligned math content in HTML format that runs on basic devices, no internet required.
❓Who is Spark Mathics for?
It’s designed for students in remote or underserved areas without internet access, but it’s also great for parents, teachers, or anyone who wants to support low-tech, high-impact learning. The materials are especially tailored for junior high school (lower secondary), with plans to expand to other grade levels.
❓How does Spark Mathics work without internet?
All content is preloaded in HTML format. This means it can run in any browser, even without a connection. No installation or online access is needed, making it ideal for rural communities with little or no connectivity.
❓Where will the funds go?
Your support will help us:
Finalize and expand our offline learning modules
Train local teachers to use and adapt the tools
Distribute solar-powered tablet kits (including preloaded content and solar chargers)
Monitor and ensure lasting impact in our pilot areas
❓Where will the pilot program take place?
Our initial pilot will be conducted in three rural locations in West Kalimantan, Indonesia:
Nibung, Selimbau, Kapuas Hulu
Sentimok, Jagoi Babang, Bengkayang
Pemangkat, Simpang Hilir, Kayong Utara
These communities face significant barriers to online education, and your support will directly impact students in these areas.
❓How will the Spark Mathics tablets be used in schools?
Each pilot school will receive at least three tablets depending on the needs and situation in the area. The tablets come with keyboards so teachers can easily update or adjust the learning materials. The tablets will be used by students in small groups so they can learn together through discussion and teamwork.
❓Can students use the content at home too?
Yes they can. The materials can be copied to students' smartphones using a USB cable or flash drive. This way students can continue learning at home without needing internet access or a tablet of their own.
❓What kind of training will teachers receive?
Teachers at each pilot school will be trained on how to use the content and tools. After the training, they are encouraged to share what they learn with other teachers in their school or nearby schools. This way more teachers and students can benefit even outside of the pilot locations.
❓What is Spark Mathics planning in the future?
We plan to create our own special tablet for education. This tablet will not have internet access so students can focus on learning without distractions. It will be safe to use even without adults watching over them. The tablet will include useful content like lessons simulations games videos notes and learning apps that are already installed. This version is meant for parents and teachers who want children to learn digitally without the risk of getting distracted by social media or other online platforms.
❓Why is Spark Mathics focused on offline learning?
Because many schools still do not have internet access. In Indonesia alone more than twenty seven thousand schools from preschool to high school levels do not have internet and many also have no electricity. Spark Mathics offers a way to bring digital learning to students who would otherwise be left behind.
❓What do I get as a backer?
Depending on your reward tier, you’ll receive access to our educational game packs, designed for offline use but delivered online for your convenience. You’ll be one of the first to experience how Spark Mathics makes math fun, accessible, and internet-free!
❓Can I use these games in my own school or home?
Absolutely! While our mission is to serve students in remote areas, the games are also a fun way for anyone to explore math concepts. We just ask that you use them for non-commercial, educational purposes.
❓Why support Spark Mathics now?
Over 27,000 schools in Indonesia still lack internet access (Kompas, 2025), and the digital divide continues to widen. By supporting Spark Mathics, you’re helping bridge that gap with practical, ready-to-use offline tools. You’re not just funding content, you’re powering opportunity.
