Slices for Life

I never set out to own a pizza place -- not even Panhandler's Pizza. But with my background in nonprofits, I know we can create a positive social impact while making the best pizza around.  Our dream is to help others help themselves while making a positive impact on our community and serving great pizza. Our mission is twofold. First, we want to create a better community through a jobs program for those with disabilities or special needs.  Our working definition is that “Special needs” is about education (both the community,our staff, and our customers) and “disability” is about the body, the brain, senses being wired and tapped in a unique way. Second, we want to use our boxes, wall space, location to help nonprofits in the community any way that we can.  Every month we want to feature a different non-profit by giving them our pizza box tops to serve as a space to communicate with the community, wall space in the restaurant to post information about the nonprofit, space for fundraisers and an educated staff that can talk to our customers about the nonprofit.  

What is easier that pairing great pizza and great causes to help our community?? If our pizza can help with a community need, then that is what we want to do.  We think this is a perfect pairing to help impact the community in a positive way.  As Panhandler's grows and expands, we would expect all locations to create the same positive impact in their community. 

We are seeking funding to be able to get a consultant to help us to create a strong, safe, best practice outcome-based replicible program as well as create appropriate training for our staff.  We also need funding to create boxes for messaging as well as funding materials to get the info out to our wonderful nonprofit community. 

We have assembled a core team of staff that is dedicated to seeing this project through as well as hiring key staff that are able to help move these two important initiatives forward!
