The Campaign FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:
- What is IFW? What does crowdfunding mean? We highly recommend you to visit this link first before checking out the questions below: https://beta.ifundwomen.com/crowdfunding-faq
- When should I expect my rewards to arrive? You should expect them to arrive in June/July 2020 with the exception of the Passion Planner (arrival date ASAP after you have made a pledge for one)! If you pledge $250 to our campaign, your episode will be published in July 2020.
- Will you update us how you will use your funds? Of course! Project Voice aims to be as transparent as we can. We will update you how we've used your pledges in our final newsletter, which should be released around August-September 2020.
- Who will you be interviewing in season 5? In addition to our lovely sponsors, we'll be interviewing figures and organizations that we believe will have a lot to share about topics that we haven't covered yet on the Project Voice podcast (we know this sounds a bit vague for now, but please trust us that the content will be never-before-heard on the podcast!).
- What is your budget?
- What is your criteria for hiring podcasting mentors? All mentors must identify either as an Asian womxn or non-binary person. Mentors must have had experience in podcasting. Each mentor must create one week-long module, which means there will be 3 weekly modules in total (branding + storytelling, audio editing, and marketing). Each mentor is required to participate in the judging panel of the scholarship program selection process. We will have 3 mentors in total.
- How is each module structured?
- Each module must be 1-2 hour long.
- Must be done in a recorded session - video file used as a future reference.
- With a printable PPT file as future references for mentees
- Mentors must prepare weekly homework assignments for mentees
- What is your criteria for scholarship program applicants? Applicants must be able to commit to the online mentorship program schedule or risk losing the grant. Marginalized Asian identities - non-East Asian, LGBTQ+ and non-binary folx are highly encouraged to apply. Individuals or teams can apply. Teams have a higher chance to be selected.
- What is your timeline like?
- Besides making a pledge to your campaign, are there other ways to support you? We'd love for you to spread the word about our scholarship program on whatever platform(s) you're active on!

"Slanted: How An Asian American Troublemaker Took on the Supreme Court" was written by Simon Tam, Founder of The Slants Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing scholarships and mentorship to artists combining activism and community engagement into their work AND currently, Project Voice's fiscal sponsor.
"When Simon Tam started an Asian American dance rock band called The Slants, he didn't realize that he was starting an entire movement around freedom of expression and discussions on identity. The band flipped stereotypes with their bombastic live shows and community activism. But when Simon applied to register a trademark on the band's name, the government dragged him all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States.
Slanted is the story of an indomitable spirit who so believes in the idea of justice that he's willing to risk everything along the way for the dignity of self-identity. Simon shares a deeply personal account that will take you from anime conventions to the Supreme Court, all in the name of justice. The story provides a raw look at our legal system with unflinching honesty and offers timely insights on freedom of speech, how to connect with others we disagree with, and the power of music.
Gripping, funny, enlightening, and ultimately uplifting, Slanted proves that no obstacle is too difficult to conquer --as long as you have a little heart and a lot of rock n' roll. It's an irrepressible story that is fresh, alive, and defines what it means to be American."

ABOUT PASSION PLANNER (https://passionplanner.com/):
"Passion Planner is designed to be your 24/7 paper life coach™ that helps you get your life on track. It teaches you how to organize your life according to what’s important to you, by helping you break down your long-term and short-term goals into steps you can take every day.
Since its humble beginnings in 2013, Passion Planner has evolved into a #PashFam community of over one million people around the world. As a Get One, Give One company, Passion Planner donates a planner to someone in need for every planner purchased. We partner with nonprofit organizations to support a range of causes from raising mental health awareness to providing education for underserved youth. Are you a passionate mental health advocate? Pledge $50 to our campaign and receive Paige Yang's amazing book about mental health within the Asian American communities.
"Speak Up: Unsilencing the Voices of Asian Americans is a book that sheds light on the prevalence of mental health illnesses in Asian American communities.
My name is Paige Yang and I am the author of Speak Up: Unsilencing the Voices of Asian Americans. I wrote this book because I wanted to encourage readers to share their own journeys with mental health disorders and through this, create a ripple effect throughout the Asian community and beyond to help start normalizing mental health illnesses.
My hope is that, in reading this book, you will discover that mental health illnesses can impact anyone, regardless of your age, gender, economic status, or race. Through this book, I hope to instill the same kind of passion that I have for mental health wellness in you. And for you, to find the courage to share your own stories and join in on the conversation to end the stigma surrounding mental health illnesses.
In this book, you'll learn about the model minority myth and its impact on the Asian community through:
- Inspiring anonymous stories from Asian Americans all over the country along with each of their journeys with mental health disorders
- Interviews with experts in the field and individuals from local and national organizations, such as Dr. Richard Nakamura, the former deputy director at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)
- Alarming statistics on the prevalence of mental health illnesses in the Asian community
You will love this book if you have personally struggled with a mental health disorder(s), have friends or family members who are dealing with or have dealt with mental health disorder(s); work with a large Asian American population, or is passionate about issues related to mental health wellness.
Speak Up: Unsilencing the Voices of Asian Americans is a non-fiction book that speaks to young adults and health care professionals who are looking to enhance their understanding of the impact of mental health disorders in the Asian community and to find solidarity in a pervasive issue. Ultimately, I hope to inspire readers to share their stories and to ignite a conversation on this much-needed discussion."

ABOUT WONTON IN A MILLION (https://wontoninamillion.com):
"Cynthia Koo is the founder and designer of Wonton In A Million, a stationery brand that's home of the Dimsum Steam Team. She grew up eating dimsum at Oriental Garden, the restaurant my dad has managed in New York City for over 30 years and one day in 2015, she started wondering why there weren’t punny greeting cards featuring the little dumplings, buns, and pastries that made up her favorite Chinese cuisine. Thus, Wonton In A Million was born. Her sincere hope is that the Dimsum Steam Team makes you happy and hungry, inspires you to eat more dimsum, and "touches your heart" (the literal translation of "dimsum")!"

ABOUT COVRY (https://shopcovry.com/):
"Covry [kōv-rē] noun: an eyewear company celebrating diversity.
We’re creating a new standard: Elevated Fit® eyewear that actually fits.
We understand how challenging it is to find a pair of frames that fit your face comfortably. Shopping for eyewear that embraces diverse facial features has long been a seemingly impossible task. Most frames in the market either sit on our cheeks, slide down our nose, or rise up our face when we smile. We knew there had to be a way to wear frames with confidence, so we created Elevated Fit® and started our journey to break away from the standard fit."
