The Problem : Grind Culture is Toxic

Let’s admit it: Grind culture = #TOXIC. 

Something starting with a C ending in a 19 swept in last year, exacerbated injustices, took jobs and the people that where fortunate enough to keep their jobs were banished to their homes to work and never to come out again. The beauty of this time is that people have found a new way to survive by creating their own jobs and building community in their own way. Unfortunately our new pursuits has cranked  "grind culture" to another level, exacerbating the need to produce at “demon speed”. This is only the tip of the ice berg, some other things we’ve observed was that there is…..

-A lack of shared work/create space dedicated to black and brown people, minorities at large and our allies in the city of St. Petersburg Fl.

-No shared workspaces catered to therapist and other wellness related professionals due to their required HIPPA compliance.

-There is stigma associated with having and dealing with mental health illness in the workplace.

-There is a lack of targeted services to help people gain skills and resources needed to transition to their "new normal".

The solution: Create the Balance You Want

Our Mission is to help our members find a healthy balance in work and wellness by providing a physical and digital space to work, be well and connected .

IMAGINE IT: A WALK AROUND PRETTY BROWN SPACE

-We are a 1500 sq. ft, health and tech-conscious, collaborative space where our members can create, socialize, worship, and dream.

-We have 700 sq. ft of HIPPA compliant private room for our members which include therapists, entrepreneurs, artists, students, and activists.

-Provide studio and nap room space

-Employed staff who are health conscious and socially aware.

-Comfy ergonomic furniture, a whole jungle worth of beautiful plants, space to work ,create, healthy snacks and drinks.

-Available space for those looking to host wellness, healing, and conscious events and workshops.

Who are we?

Pretty Brown Space, scheduled to open Mid-Summer 2021,  is a co- working space and wellness sanctuary located in St. Petersburg, FL.  Pretty Brown Space is a safe environment, free of the pressure to ALWAYS produce, but offers room if you have to. We know that folk have a life to re-create and we want to be that space that encourages balance, self-expression, justice-centered healing, and elevated wellness.

Why we're crowdfunding

The goal is to grow beyond space to a movement for the new way to work, reclaim well- being or find well- being if you are on the journey. PBS will house BIPOC-owned businesses and work with stakeholders to assist in the fight for economic and mental health equity in St. Pete. PrettyBrown Space is not a corporate business — PrettyBrown Space is a community business that needs the support of community members to survive. So far we have hosted several live conversations with activists, local business owners and wellness professionals, virtual yoga and hosted a local Read About it series.

With your help we can acquire a physical space and online space and start the new wave of work and wellness with your contribution we will be able to do the following..

-Secure a brick and mortar space for our physical space

-Build a digital community for our remote members

-Compensation for staff 

-Acquire necessary technology, light studio equipment, furniture and decor 

                                                          Meet The Founder

Heyyyy everybody, I am Raynell (she/her) ! I am the founder of PrettyBrown Space.

My passion is being in community with dope people and spreading positive vibes!

By trade I am a social worker, Beyonce’s unofficial back up dancer, and a foodie (I’m a southern girl through and through!!!)!

I attended FAMU where I earned my B.S. in Social Work. After graduating from FAMU, I went on to earn my Masters in Clinical Social Work from FSU for my master’s in clinical social work. I have four years of post-graduate experience in mental health and substance abuse and will be a licensed therapist in the fall *sighs in future relief* lolllll!

Like I stated earlier: I’m just here to spread the good vibes, and PrettyBrown Space is how I plan to elevate disproportionately impacted communities and our allies across the world!
