New Women Space
A vibrant and affirming community-led event space centered on inclusivity, gender equity, creative expression, and celebration of identity.

Project Description

Meet New Women Space

Our mission at New Women Space is to create a vibrant and affirming community by inviting self-identified women, POC, femme, queer, transgender and gender nonconforming individuals to lead powerful in-person gatherings and start new, timely, and critical conversations in an intentional space centered on personal and societal transformation.
At New Women Space we believe everyone is to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their color, culture, gender identity, expression, or presentation. In our safe and inclusive community people are affirmed and we strive to ensure abundant access to the resources and opportunities they need to prosper and thrive.
We envision a world free of the rigidity of white supremacy, heteronormativity, capitalism, and patriarchal systems of oppression and work to dismantle these structures through the resilient creation and proliferation of community spaces owned and operated by the people most directly impacted.

An Unexpected Pivot
During this Pandemic, which has affected us all, being an event & community space, New Women Space has had to close our doors. But we wanted to remain connected to our community. To remain a source of powerful connectivity, value, and a safe place to be. With these things in mind, New Women Space has gone digital. Even when we reopen and are back in our Brooklyn location, we will continue to offer digital programming.
Through our Digital Programming we offer:
- Yoga Classes
- Queer Community Circles
- Take Action Parties
- Discussion on grief, loss, career uncertainty during Covid
- Sound Healing
- Illustration Classes
- Feminist Self-Defense Classes
- And More

All of this programming is done with the intention of adhering to our mission even in this time of uncertainty. We are determined to remain a space where marganalized instructors, healers, entrepreneurs, and artists & creatives can come to host events as a valuable means of supporting themselves economically. These digital events are also a way of ensuring our community remains together, encouraging one another and staying focused on the things that are most important as upheaval, fear, and violence attempts to take us all down.
We have also created a Virtual Membership that is affordable enough that eve those deeply financially impacted by Covid can still join. For $4.99/month Virtual Members get:
-
Free entry to ALL Virtual Events
-
Access to specialty virtual members-only events
-
Entry into our members-only worldwide community platform
-
Weigh in and suggest future events
-
Download recording of events at a discounted price
-
First access to gifts and giveaways
In this way we have NOT let Covid stop us. We have innovated and continue to push forward the mission of New Women Space.
The Power of Marginalized Communities
Why crowdfunding?

Because we are determined to keep going. We know the value of what New Women Space provides and we are excited for when we are able to reopen and re-welcome the community into our Brooklyn location (something we are hoping to do this fall). We see the strength of our community. We know what happens when those who are seen by the world as weak, inhuman, marganalized come together to take action.
We make change.
We are heard.
We force the world to acknowledge we are here.
The reality is that while the virtual programming has funded instructors & allowed New Women Space to pay minor bills, it is nowhere near possible to cover the required rent every month. During this time we have been relying on our savings to pay the required amount. Naturally, with nothing much coming in...we have reached the bottom of our well.

What's Next
We are looking to refill our coffers and have a few months' rent that we can pull from, ensuring our physical location will be here as the world begins to safely reopen. None of us is clear on when this Pandemic will end. None of us is clear on when we will be able to safely and comfortably gather together in community again. Until then, our main sources of income: events & the cafe are barred to us.
Throughout the uncertainty, we continue to create a bigger virtual platform and continue to discover new ways to keep our community engaged and feeling connected. New Women Space is passionate about being a safe and inclusive space for marganalized communities. We are a space where our voices can be heard. When the community is nurtured and empowered, we ALL benefit.
Strengthening our virtual platform and maintaining our physical location are vital aspects toward accomplishing our goals.
By helping New Women Space, know that we are committed to continuing in our mission of visibility, economic empowerment, safety, and acceptance for us all.
New Women Space Pays It Forward!

In-line with our mission, we understand the importance of paying it forward. When we reach our goal of $20,000, we'll be donating 10% to Rainbow Railroad a charitable organization we recently learned about! Rainbow Railroad helps LGBTQI people escape persecution and violence around the world. Since its founding in 2006, Rainbow Railroad has helped more than 800 individuals find a path to safety to start a new life—free from persecution.
Thank you for supporting us! Thank you for believing in us!
