Nature, Wellness, and Community Healing

The mission of Dardar's Bayou Plant Nursery is to heal our environment after decades of extractive practices that have contributed to land loss of our delta while educating others in traditional ecological knowledge. In doing this we can also teach resilience and adaptation skills that have been handed down from our ancestors, which include environmental preservation and wellbeing.  

Shirell is educated in Natural Medicine and Herbalism, wanting to bring recognition to her Elders and their teachings she earned the distinctions of BCNWP, BCIH, DNM. She is currently working on her BCDNM. We are fully inclusive and are of the belief that all are welcome and deserving of love and care. We are responsible to and for each other.  We hope to reintroduce the understandings of community connection and anticipate that as time passes others will join in our passion.

Our nursery encompasses a wide range of wellness resources with access to fresh fruits, vegetables, indigenous trees, and also includes natural, herbal and Spiritual wellness resources. We believe that by offering these resources and sharing in knowledge we can empower communities to adapt to increased climate impacts, positively impact their wellbeing, and gain valuable traditional ecological knowledge while experiencing the joy of nature.

With less access to affordable healthy food options and the hustle and bustle of the daily grind, it's no surprise that our health is being negatively impacted. Of course, having a healthy climate is also a big part of the equation. That's our focus at Dardar's Bayou Plant Nursery.

Goals:

Empowerment: Our primary goal is to help communities gain the knowledge and skills for a healthier environment and lifeways.

Community Building: We aspire to regain traditional community practices that are in alignment with nature and our environment.

Reducing Barriers: By providing wellbeing education services at low and no cost, we eliminate financial barriers that might prevent community residents from accessing these vital resources.
