MyPinwheel leverages advances in big data, machine learning, and mobile to offer the first platform designed to empower parents to teach and reinforce positive behaviors that will help their children aged 2-12 become strong and successful people. We integrate mobile devices, wearables, and other technologies that kids already use to help bring “order to chaos” when it comes to chores, allowances, scheduling, and other common points of friction that we’ve experienced with our own kids.

Modern parenting is hard. A recent survey shows parenting is seen as more difficult today than in the past – by a margin of 6 to 1! We are seeing this because family dynamics are changing (65% dual income families, divorced parents with new family structures, etc.), challenges based on government policies, a struggling economy, and a high-pressure culture and a proliferation of parenting philosophies, health guidelines, and educational options that has parents confused.

Parents are also being told that we must focus on developing emotional intelligence in our kids and how important it is. Studies and statistics show how important EQ is. For example, 85 percent of financial success comes from skills in “human engineering.” Only 15 percent is due to ‘technical knowledge”. Studies also show that people with a strong EQ make good leaders and are better at working collaboratively in team environments. Fostering EQ in young children helps them communicate well, develop strong relationships, negotiate tricky situations, and become leaders in their field.

MyPinwheel is at the intersection of e-commerce, chore management, mobile/wearables, and emotional intelligence education – we have “cracked the code” for parents by giving them the right tools to overcome common issues and improve their family dynamics. We built these tools because we know how important emotional intelligence (EQ) is for children to become happy, successful adults. Research shows that kids with poor self-regulation and planning abilities are more likely to have aggressive behavior problems, more anxiety & depression, less ability to cope and achieve academically, etc. MyPinwheel helps kids learn basic skills and self-regulation by creating an environment where self-regulation is consistently rewarded and reminders are regularly provided so kids can practice planning. Our big data and machine learning technology help to spot potential areas where help is needed and it does the research on the best advice and tools to help you guide and teach your children.

The team - Chia-Lin Simmons & Rafa Saavedra bring deep expertise in building solutions that integrate mobile, cloud and analytics. This is a seasoned executive team with extensive experience with both public and tech start-up exits: Google, Amazon, Harman International (JBL), Motorola, etc. The team worked together to bring Aha Radio to the connected car mass market, making it available in millions of vehicles globally through Honda, Subaru, Ford and more. The team has built companies, sold startups to corporations and taken companies to IPO in the past.

MyPinwheel has been self-funded thus far and is raising money to move the product from minimum viable product (MVP) to alpha version for testing with families. The money will be spent on engineers that will further develop the dig data cloud, machine learning technology; further development front-end mobile applications in iOS and Android; purchase alpha testing devices to loan out to families for hand- on testing; and developing the early emotional intelligence content with child development/emotional intelligence experts.
