Project Description

MINI LILA is a line of super soft clothing and accessories for babies and tots that are thermo-regulating, stain-fighting and flame resistant. They also provide UV protection (SPF 50)!

We want to bring safe, organic, sustainable and beautiful basics to every parent through an amazing fabric from Europe: organic Merino wool & silk.

The only essentials a baby will ever need.

OUR MISSION

Babies cannot regulate their body temperature, they go through many outfits a day and have extremely sensitive skin but baby garments have yet to properly adapt to account for these facts.

Cotton is commonly used, but it can't regulate a child's body temperature. NONE of the fabrics used today for baby clothes are self-cleaning or stain-fighting. Parents spend way too much time doing laundry! And many fabrics used for baby clothes contain harmful toxins, dyes or pesticide. They are often treated to be flame resistant or to provide UV protection

MINI LILA has found a solution to all these problems by using an innovative, highly sustainable and organic fabric: Merino wool & silk.

What's different about our garments?

MINI LILA garments respond to changes in body temperature in real time !! keeping babies warm in winter and cool in summer. They are self-cleaning and only need minimal washing. They can be worn several days in a row without getting smelly or building up bacteria. MINI LILA essentials are organic, highly sustainable with no harmful toxins, dyes or pesticides. They come with built in UV protection (SPF 50) and are naturally flame resistant with no chemical treatment necessary.

HOW YOUR FUNDING HELPS

We've been bootstrapping MINI LILA for three years which has been such a privilege. We've built a website, worked with our manufacturers in Germany, and registered our international trademark. During all of this, we expanded our team, listened to our customers, and grew our knowledge of the infant apparel sector.

Now, we need your help to build the best product - MINI LILA 2.0 with some major improvements:

1) We want to add a new color range of colors.

2) We want to add new styles.

MEET MINI LILA

Hi there from us: Leith + Isabell.

We're two friends who met in New York as mamas-to-be. We quickly discovered that the organic Merino wool & silk pieces brought to Isabell from Europe were what our children felt most comfortable in - day and night. They stayed cleaner for longer! We didn’t have to spend as much time doing laundry! And they could be worn year-round because this fabric keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. It felt like magic!!

Leith, a former market editor at Vogue, couldn’t help but realize how amazing and truly miraculous Merino wool & silk is!

Having recently completed a Fashion Design degree at FIT, she and Isabell (a trained lawyer) decided to go ahead and put our combined skills to the test. We got to work straight away and, somehow - even with new babies, MINI LILA came to life within the year!

Our main hope is that our garments are something that you will cherish. Something that lasts the test of time. And something that will be handed down through your family. For this reason - MINI LILA stays away from trends, keeping the focus on styles that are classic and seasonless.

WHY MERINO WOOL & SILK? WHAT MAKES IT SO GREAT?

Merino wool & silk is the safest, easiest and best way to dress your littlest loves. The fabric is an active material and responds to body temperature changes in real time (keeping your baby warm in winter and cool in summer). Breathable like a second-skin, these pieces can be worn 24/7 for days without getting smelly. Want to know more? We’ve listed all the magic Merino wool & silk does here.

IS MERINO WOOL & SILK ITCHY?

No! Merino sheep produce the finest, softest, and most adaptable wool anywhere in the world. And ours is the best quality! The added silk makes the fabric even softer. It’s just really super duper soft.

WILL MY MERINO WOOL & SILK PIECES LAST?

Merino wool & silk is strong, hard wearing, and so practical. Our garments will last and stretch, maintain their shape and in fact grow with your child. They will look great season after season, child after child.

IS YOUR MERINO WOOL ORGANIC?

Yes, it’s certified organic! All our wool comes from sheep that have been raised naturally and in a habitat where holistic farming methods are implemented without the use of any synthetic chemicals or pesticides.

DO I NEED TO WASH MY NEW PIECES BEFORE THE FIRST USE?

No! Since our wool is completely untreated and we’re not using any dyestuffs with heavy metals or harmful AZO-dyes, there’s no need to wash them before the first use. They also undergo a strict testing at independent laboratories on an ongoing basis to ensure they’re completely safe without washing.

WHERE ARE YOUR GARMENTS MADE?

Our garments are all proudly made in Germany, in a tiny village by a small family-owned manufacturer.

HOW DO YOUR SIZES RUN?

The age range in our sizing should be used as a guideline. Babies come in all shapes and sizes and there is no universal sizing to fit all. But luckily, our garments are very stretchy! You will find that for most styles, your pieces will last longer than the size range indicated. If you are unsure of what size to get, send us an email at [email protected]! We are always happy to chat with you.

WHICH GARMENT IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR WEARING IN WARM WEATHER?

All our pieces are made to be worn in warm weather. Even on hot and steamy summer days, the Merino wool & silk mix reliably transports sweat and heat away from the skin. It also provides natural UV-protection (SPF 50) without any chemicals involved. Thus, especially for your newborn, you might want to opt for the long-sleeved version because sunscreen isn’t safe for children less than a year old.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS AND CHALLENGES ?

We’ve established processes and systems in place and know how to create these products.

Of course, there is always a risk for delays with manufacturing or shipping our garments. But we’ve already sampled and perfected the product and we'll continue to work alongside our supplier to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Just know, we will do all we can on our end to do this right. You can expect to hear from us frequently to give updates on the project. If there are ever any problems along the way, we will keep you in the loop!
