- What is the mission of your company or project?
- Is to satisfy these huge Haitian and African-American communities to make them feel home by experiencing our beauty services as they were home.
- Describe the problem you are solving.
- The Haitian community is used to a certain culture when it comes to do their nails and hair. In the United States, they always miss this haitian way manicure pedicure they are looking for and can never find. Maro Beauty Salons have always given them a sense of being home whenever they travel to Haiti and make their first stop at our salons for this great manipedi they've been craving for.-
- What is the market size/opportunity?
- Large market. We are targetting both Haitians (caribbean people) and African-Americans/the opportunity is huge as the black market is getting bigger
- What is your company/product about and how does it solve the problem?
- My company product is beauty and wellness services. As Caribbean, Haitian, African-American people, we grew up in a certain culture, we have habits and routine that we cherish. Unfortunately some of us are forced to leave our country and live abroad and even if we have found a new home, some little things are still missing. At Maro Beauty Salons, we have earned the reputation of offering great manipedi services (the satisfying haitian way), we became expert in kinky haircare and this Haitian community is thirsty of finding this little missing piece of home and that is where we will be solving this problem
- Why are you seeking funding?
- To move our salons from Haiti to the United States. Due to political unrests, we were forced to close our 3 current locations and do not know for how long. 2 years ago, due to political unrests still - we had to close 3 additional locations we had (1 salon in Turgeau and 2 locations at Marriott Hotel in Haiti). We cannot sit and witness more losses. As the situation is not getting better in Haiti, we do not see how we are going to get back on our feet. It is hard to see such a great business context that the Haitian community cherishes so much falling apart so quickly. Massive haitian clientele has moved to the United States. I am also a certified esthetician who studied abroad and my clients trust my work. Being an Esthetician is my passion. I help women be and feel at their best. My dream is to continue to live my passion which is to keep being an esthetician by bringing Maro Beauty Salons group here in the States and also provide a new open door for jobs for haitian women in the US community.
- will you spend the funding?
- December 1st will mark 6 years since I have been officially in business. My husband is a chief investment officer and we can say that we mastered the investment part of things. We love to invest, all we know how to do is to invest not spend!
- Who is on your team?
- My husband. He has 2 MBA in Finance from NYU Stern. We have started this beautiful project together back in 2016.
