LOOSE CHAINS CHANGE
Reimagining Hope Through Art and Community
Project Description
Our Mission: Loose Chains Change is a multimedia art project that empowers marginalized communities through artistic expression and economic opportunity. We transform discarded lottery tickets, symbols of unfulfilled hope, into powerful tapestries that challenge the predatory nature of state-run lotteries.
The Problem: Lottery systems disproportionately target and exploit low-income communities, particularly Black and Brown neighborhoods. These systems dangle the promise of wealth while perpetuating cycles of poverty. We aim to dismantle this narrative and empower individuals through art and financial support.
The Opportunity: Our work resonates with a growing audience concerned about social justice and economic inequality. The market expands as awareness grows and the project gains traction in the art world.
Our Solution: Loose Chains Change:
- Empowers Communities: We employ individuals experiencing homelessness, veterans, recovering individuals, and young people to collect discarded lottery tickets. This provides income and fosters a sense of purpose.
- Recycles Waste: We divert tons of lottery ticket litter from landfills, promoting environmental sustainability.
- Creates Artful Protest: The resulting tapestries become powerful conversation starters, challenging the predatory nature of lotteries and highlighting the resilience of marginalized communities.
Why We Need Funding: Our initial grant has provided vital resources, but to expand our impact, we need your help. Funding will allow us to:
- Scale Up: Employ more community partners as ticket collectors, increasing income opportunities and project reach.
- Secure a Dedicated Studio Space: This will improve working conditions and allow for larger-scale production.
- Expand Public Engagement: We plan educational workshops and public exhibitions to elevate awareness about predatory lotteries and promote financial literacy.
Our Team:
- Mia (35) Artist & Founder: Leading the artistic vision and project management.
- Mike (62), Community Liaison: Veteran and Brooklyn native, collecting tickets and building community connections.
- Joanne (Age Unknown), Community Liaison: Recovering individual, supporting ticket collection remotely.
- Kayla WB (23), Intern: Parsons School of Design graduate, assisting with ticket organization.
- Kayla L (14), Intern: High school student, assisting with ticket organization and tapestry assembly.
Join us in breaking the chains of economic exploitation! Donate to Loose Chains Change on iFundWomen and help us transform despair into hope, one discarded ticket at a time.
