The LIV Collective
A platform designed for women of colour to take care of their mental & emotional health through breathwork, meditation and movement.

Project Description
The LIV Collective is a platform designed to help women of colour support their mental and emotional well-being through breathwork, meditation and movement.

We create space online and in-person for women of colour to access scientifically backed practices to alleviate anxiety, regulate their nervous system, release trauma and heal.
We exist to dismantle the stigma around mental health and disrupt the narrative around wellness and accessible healing.
Our Story.
In 2019 we launched our platform and hosted sold-out meditation, yoga and creative wellness experiences for women of colour in the city of Toronto. The overwhelming interest coupled with feedback from our introductory wellness survey demonstrated a need for diverse wellness spaces that acknowledge the complex healing needs of marginalized women. In the midst of a global pandemic, we moved our offerings online with weekly classes that enabled us to reach women around the globe. We're now on a mission to create greater access to healing through a digital database of on-demand breathwork, meditation and movement classes instructed by certified practitioners, creating an opportunity for women to take care of their mental and emotional health anytime, anywhere - and we're crowdfunding to help us reach our goal.

Our "Why".
We’re driven to destigmatize mental health and motivate women of colour to prioritize their mental and emotional health.
We recognize that women of colour often face barriers to accessing supportive mental health care and often women of colour don't feel represented in wellness.
Yet the reality is, the facts are in and they demonstrate a disproportionate need for care:
-
Racialized women disproportionately suffer from violence and the subsequent mental health impact with Black women experiencing both higher rates of intimate partner violence and greater mental health burden than non-Black women.
-
Black women are disproportionately excluded from psychological research
-
Racialized women are less likely to seek professional mental health support

Your support.
Our goal is to raise the funds that will enable us to create a diverse, accessible database of on-demand breathwork, meditation and movement classes proven to support mental and emotional health. With your help we can make a significant stride in closing the gap between demand and supply of inclusive wellness spaces and normalize the prioritization of mental health in communities of colour.
100% of our funding will go directly toward:
1. Expanding our team of Breathwork Facilitators, Meditation Guides and Movement Guides
2. Hiring a videographer to record and edit our wellness content
3. Developing our online marketing and promotion budget
4. Operating costs including studio bookings and website hosting
Meet the founder.

Khadija Nelson is a mental health advocate and certified Meditation, Mindfulness and Breathwork teacher. She was led to incorporate mindfulness, breakwork and yoga into her own life in the midst of a personal bout of depression and anxiety and was inspired to create space for other women to reap the benefits of these practices for their mental well-being too. She now shares her work with women-centered brands and holds space for women both IRL and online. She is also a mother and a passionate advocate for food security and sustainability.
