Lisa's 1973 Launch
Lisa’s 1973 mission is To Bring A Way of Living...To Everyone. Now launching our Sauces & Dressings!
Project Description
problem | opportunity
Science shows that there are direct links between eating inflammatory foods and the detrimental effects on your physical and mental well-being. Inflammation is the root cause of most diseases in the United States, yet 70% of our food chain is made up of processed food - including sugar, additives and the inflammatory oils in your favorite salad dressings! - and it’s everywhere. The results in the U.S. are at all-time high with 6 out 10 Americans suffering from at least one chronic illness.
A silver lining from COVID-19 is the massive shift in consumer behavior for eating patterns with health benefits, driven by a heightened awareness of food as medicine. As a result, consumers are actively seeking out products that are organic, plant-based, and allergen-free with functional ingredients, made by companies who are committed to socially and environmentally responsible practices. This demand is growing at a much faster rate than conventional counterparts and we believe this is a moment in time to innovate.
solution
Lisa’s 1973 delivers a dose of well-being in a bottle for plant-lovers and omnivores alike! Pour it on your salad, serve with your tacos, drizzle on your omelette, spread on a sandwich, toss with your pasta, or dip your crackers and veggies. The options are endless! We use organic, plant-based, allergen-friendly and functional ingredients that are good for you - and, most importantly, taste awesome! We want your snacks and meals to be simple, spontaneous, delicious and really good for you and the planet.
the women behind the bottle
Lisa and Kristin were seemingly living their best lives until a brutal wake up call. Lisa suffered for many years from untreated auto-immune conditions such as celiac disease and fibromyalgia, while struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction. Kristin was diagnosed in her 30’s with a congenital heart condition that required open heart surgery and a long recovery and she, too, was impacted by debilitating anxiety and addiction.
The path to a better quality of life through food was not only a priority, it was a necessity. Lisa and Kristin wanted to help be a part of the solution: give people more choices of delicious, healthy food that will find its way into homes across the country. Together they created Lisa’s 1973 and became fiercely dedicated to sharing organic, sustainably-harvested food with their community. From there, Lisa’s 1973 mission came alive – to bring a way of living...to everyone.
empowering your choices
Why 1973? Besides Lisa's birth year, this was the year: for women, for the environment, and to end war. It was a year that represented forward-looking change and empowerment. With choice comes power and Lisa’s 1973 believes that you shouldn’t have to compromise taste for healthy, functional ingredients.
Studies show that eating “real” food contributes to better mental, emotional and physical health.* Yet, Lisa and Kristin were frustrated and disappointed after seeing the lack of choices in the dressing aisle. The only available options were dressings that had an insanely long shelf-life or natural formulas accompanied by unpleasant after-taste. Lisa and Kristin wondered, “Why do we have to sacrifice one or the other?”
Lisa figured that there must be others who were frustrated by the limited options. As a Culinary Archaeologist, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work in her favorite, most creative spot – the kitchen. Kristin, a foodie to the core, gave her support as Lisa’s #1 taste-tester (because couples who eat together, stay together!) They experimented with the philosophy of ancient cooking practices like combining pure and simple ingredients with functional ones. Their not-so-secret secret? Adding love and intention to every sauce. The result? Plant-based, organic dressings with a deep, flavorful taste.
Yep, meal prep just got a lot easier...and way more delicious!
our promise
Our commitment goes beyond great-tasting (and super healthy) sauce. In a society that’s always evolving, we know that there’s still much more work to be done. At Lisa’s 1973 we want to make sure that we make inclusivity, love, eating locally & sustainably, and food equity a priority. This dedication is made with the intention to help make the world a better place today, for our son’s generation, and the planet that future generations will inherit.
With our dressings, we hope these thoughtfully-sourced ingredients give you peace of mind. Remember: Your health is a priority, not an afterthought. We want to help give you the education and resources to have the control and freedom over your health and your body. And we promise that in everything we do, we do it with love.
