Project Description
At CarSal, our mission is to make clean, affordable vehicles accessible to everyone—especially underserved communities—while reducing environmental waste. Every year, over 5 million "salvaged" vehicles are discarded, many of which are still roadworthy. We're building a tech-driven platform to rescue and resell these cars, helping families, students, and gig workers access reliable transportation for half the cost of traditional dealerships.
The U.S. used car market exceeds $800 billion annually, yet millions can't afford safe, dependable cars. By offering vehicle diagnostics, transparent reports, and logistics support, we demystify the process and save buyers thousands.
We’re raising funds to upgrade our website, launch local outreach events, and pilot our “Women Drive Change” program—helping women entrepreneurs and single mothers access vehicles and job mobility. Our team includes Dr. Cecilia Cao (MIT, UC Berkeley), Dmitri Zhou (ex-Google), and Ayden Zhang (UC Berkeley, Zoox).

❓ What is CarSal?
CarSal is a mission-driven platform that helps people—especially students, immigrants, and working families—find affordable, reliable vehicles. We focus on high-quality clean title, rebuilt, and salvage title vehicles that have been fully inspected, certified, and restored for safe, long-term use.
❓ What does my contribution support?
Your support helps us source and repair undervalued vehicles, educate buyers about salvage cars, and expand access to affordable transportation in California and beyond. Funds will also support our outreach, technician partnerships, and local internship program.
❓ Will I receive anything for supporting the campaign?
Yes! We offer exclusive digital rewards such as CarSal service credits (used car inspection, VIN report, etc.), thank-you cards, and early access to deals. Some tiers even include special discounts on vehicle purchases or delivery services.
❓ Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Not at this time. CarSal is a for-profit social impact business. While we aim to create public good, contributions are considered non-tax-deductible support for a business campaign.
❓ Are the cars safe to drive?
Absolutely. Every CarSal vehicle is inspected by a certified ASE mechanic, passes a full safety and function check, and comes with a detailed third-party report. Many also include a limited warranty and optional extended protection.
❓ What types of vehicles do you offer?
We specialize in value-packed used sedans, SUVs, and hybrids—especially ideal for students, rideshare drivers, and families. All listings undergo our quality screen and AI-powered pricing review.
❓ Do you only sell salvage-title cars?
No. We offer clean title, rebuilt title, and salvage title vehicles—all carefully vetted for safety and value. Our mission is to help you buy the best car for your budget, no matter the title type.
❓ Where do you operate?
We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently serve customers across California. Vehicle delivery is available within the state, and we're expanding soon!
