Super is a multidisciplinary creative space and app dedicated to artists of color.

In honor of Women’s Entrepreneurship Day 2020, Super and our founder, Crystal Hines, teamed  up with American Express for their #Amex100for100 program!  This program included workshops and networking events in addition to the $25,000 grant prize that was used to get our business affairs in order (trademarks, taxes, etc.) as well as bring on a social media manager to increase our digital presence.  Additionally, Super has digitally hosted a panel with curator AJ Girard and 2 fellow art workers on the current Black Renaissance as well as hosted a screening of Black and Latinx Woman Identifying films with a panel discussion with the filmmakers.  Super also launched a microgrant dedicated to artists in need of a push and hosted another film screening for Black and Latinx LGBTQ+ identifying filmmakers.

The Problem

In the last decade, there have been over 22,000 collaborative spaces opened worldwide; 56 of them were POC-owned and even fewer offered dedicated spaces for the arts.

Our Solution

Super offers physical workspaces such as art, film and photography studios for the development and advancement of artists of color along with a digital platform for educational resources and inspiration. Super supports the many nuanced aspects of an artist's creative journey by providing the tools needed to learn and expand into the institutionalized structure of the industry.

Our First Initiative

The Super Pop-up, an interactive workshop for Black and Latinx creatives in Los Angeles, will kick off our first initiative. This 2-week event offers free* access to photo and video production stages, a 3-D printer, panels, multidisciplinary workshops, and more.

Why Crowdfunding:

Super is community-based so we want to include the community we serve in the process.  Your contribution helps SMC solve a problem that many investors don’t believe exists.  We deserve a space to be creative no matter the discipline or economic position.  Join us in kicking off this first phase to bring Super to life locally by donating whatever you can or simply sharing this campaign with your network.  

Future Plans:

Super offers on-demand developmental workshops and programming, equipment rentals and inter-community sharing, and monthly residencies to support growing artists via the Super digital platform and app launching in 2023.

Our Founder:

Super Media Company’s Founder and CEO, Crystal Hines; born and raised in Newark, NJ, the city of the arts; started her career in 2006 during her time at the culturally iconic publication, Vibe Magazine. In 2007, Crystal launched AMMO Magazine on a mission to fill the void of curated art based on content that celebrates people of color.  Crystal has worked tirelessly to transform AMMO into a key player in the world of art and curation and, after launching Super Media Company as AMMO’s parent company, will continue to provide artists and creatives with a way to launch and solidify their careers while reaching uncharted audiences.
