John Brown the Advocate

We are funding a historical film of the Abolitionist John Brown and his last journey on the Underground Railroad in Kansas, his sacrifices, and his internal struggle as he made that last trip. 

Why? Some in society believe that we should cancel or eradicate history to heal the wounds or strikes of the past in our country. But we believe that we should tell history to identify the mistakes, errors of judgement, the good things our ancestors did, as well as the evil acts of the enemy that we all must face, to show the lessons learned so it is not repeated.

 By telling this story in film, we want to highlight that there were many that chose to lay down their lives and offer more than just help to those that wish to escape tyranny of slavery.  Some sought peacefully to end it by declaration or documentation. Others chose to fight physically in a war because they truly believed that the Declaration of Independence was applicable to all. It was a question that John Brown put to many people in his travels across the United States during the years he fought to help the enslaved escape; does this nation believe that freedom is for all? John Brown did believe that as well as others.  We felt that telling this story from the abolitionist side may offer a deeper perspective. 

 During the research of a local home, we discovered that John Brown had spent his last night in Kansas territory prior to his treason charge and subsequent hanging in 1859. That research opened the door to discover the efforts that the Network to Freedom Agency is making in recording the entire Underground Railroad trails and agents across the United States. The importance of understanding educationally as well as emotionally led us to a moment of “let’s put this on film.” And so here we are.      

We are a simple group of history advocates that came together to write and film the story of John Brown along with the help of JC Film Co. and TFI school of film. We believe it will enlighten many that there were good people, black and white, that historically believed freedom is a worthy cause to fight and die for. 

 JC Films Co. help make independent films by offering to do the filming production part but our crew are all local volunteers.  We still need to raise the cost of location, building of sets, marketing, wardrobe and props.

We are deeply indebted to the community of Sabetha, Seneca and other small local Kansas communities that have historically minded individuals that have studied our history, recorded and researched it faithfully so that we could read, study and bring it to life on film.
