Project Description

We believe that womxn of color are the future of work and invest in the fastest growing segment of the workforce through community, culture and career development.

We build a strong, purposeful community where womxn of color feel empowered to pave the way forward through opportunities to network, connect with individuals and resources, mentor and support one another, and create a powerful personal brand.

Each week, we receive countless emails from women who tell us that because of Future for Us, they now believe in their value, speak up for themselves, and have gotten promotions, raises, and new jobs.

Companies we work with have felt the impact as well; forming pathways for womxn of color, creating urgency around the opportunity and developing an approach that both supports womxn of color directly and builds/reinforces a culture of allyship internally. You can read some testimonials below.

Since launching in January of 2019, we’ve hosted over a dozen monthly events, grown a community of nearly 10,000 womxn of color professionals, and partnered with over two dozen companies. We’ve been mentioned in Forbes, Geekwire, and in other media. Our goal is to continue to amplify the needs and lived experiences of womxn of color in the workplace, every step of our journey. Follow the hashtag #FutureForUs to see what we’ve been up to these past 10 months.

When we launched in January of this year, we did not realize the appetite for Future for Us’ work both in our hometown (Seattle) and across the country. We are so proud of the work we do and the momentum we’ve created. In order to keep growing, we need capital to continue our pace of growth, and make investments in organizational infrastructure. We need your help to keep moving forward.

While we’re grateful for the opportunities and wins, as a two person startup with no funding, this has been both financially and emotionally challenging year for us. At times, it has felt like pushing a boulder uphill. These moments have also demonstrated exactly why Future for Us needs to exist.

We need to see change in our lifetimes.

Today womxn of color comprise 37% of our nation’s female population, approximately 20% of the entire U.S. population, and carry $2 trillion in purchase power.

Womxn of color have made incredible strides in educational attainment as the largest growing segment of degree holders and in the workplace—especially in entrepreneurship—starting 8 out of 10 new women owned businesses. Yet, they lag behind in leadership positions, holding just 3% of C-Suite and corporate board roles, and face unique workplace disparities. Today, there is just a single black-female CEO of a publicly traded company -  Melody Hobson, of Ariel Investments.

Our mission is to change this.

The dollars you contribute today will help build out organizational infrastructure, in particular technology infrastructure that helps our members from across the country connect with each other, and with companies. We are ready to scale, provide more services to our ever-growing community, and hire much needed staff support. A few additions you can expect:

  • Member portal: We want to create a platform to help you get all the best resources in one place, and foster more connection and communication amongst our members.

  • Online courseware: A digital library of our webinars and digital content so you can watch it anytime available.

  • Recruiters Connect: An easy way to connect with recruiters and companies ready to invest in ambitious women of color.

  • Directory of events, workshops and WoC focused events in your city.

  1. Contribute. By supporting this campaign, you’re not only keeping our doors open, you’re helping us grow the organization so we can provide more programming and get more women of color connected to critical career resources.

  2. Share. Help turn this into a movement by spreading the word. Whether it’s by email, social, or carrier pigeon, your voice will go a long way. Here's a folder with text + images to make it easy to share.

  3. Join. Sign up for Future for Us to receive our updates, access to our community and invitations to upcoming events + our weekly newsletter full of what.

Community : A strong, purposeful community where womxn of color feel empowered to pave the way forward through opportunities to network, connect with individuals and resources, mentor and support one another, and create a powerful personal brand.

Culture : A key component of connection, belonging and inclusion. Future For Us works with organizations and individuals to rethink inclusion, and support the evolution of workplaces to create a culture that values and rewards diversity.

“I dream of womxn of color continue to help each other succeed and I can't wait to see more and more womxn of color joining forces and building investment funds, building companies together and building community together. Future for Us creates a platform for this innovation to happen.” -Kim Hill, Amazon

“I used to be afraid that hiring managers or people who I worked with would judge me because of my accent or national origin so I covered my identities to try to belong. Now, I am vocal on how my visible and invisible identities have shaped the way I work and communicate with others.” -Susi Collins, Nordstrom

“There was a little quiver in my chin, a catch in my voice and welling up of tears in my eyes at the Future for Us Assembly. It was the first time that I was in such a large 300+ gather of womxn of color in Seattle. I was overwhelmed with emotion for not being “the only one” - woman, black, immigrant, etc. in the room. Another aspect that stood out to me was the intentionality in bringing together a broad cross-section of industries and professions.” -Anonymous

“The room was filled with over 300 womxn of color ready to advance our agenda, learn and share best practices, lift each other up and creative fellowship. Every single person up on the stage was a wealth of knowledge.” -Anonymous

“Future for Us provided a wealth of empirical data and a platform for rising and established womxn of color professionals to share their experiences and next step strategies in order to build powerful communities to create a future for where womxn of color lead at the highest levels across all sectors.” -Kim Lyons, Holland & Knight LLP

"Future for Us gave us some factual data and offered a space with no code switching, which I immediately took advantage of.” -Brettina Davis, Metropolitan Economic Development Association

“Thanks Future For Us for continuing to bring attention to barriers many women face in the professional world.” -Joi Freeman, Remnant Strategy

“Last night at the State of Womxn of Color was FANTASTIC! It was so empowering to be surrounded by women who want to lift you up. I had a great time learning about other women’s experiences and how we can all grow together.” -Ashley Rodriguez, HERdacity

“I've been following Future For Us on LinkedIn for quite sometime now, and have absolutely LOVED their content on womxn of color in the workplace.  Last week, I got the chance to attend their first stop at The Riveter in Los Angeles for The State of Womxn of Color Summit national tour. It was so cool being in a room full of determined and accomplished womxn of color! I got to hear some really great advice on entrepreneurship and venture capital during the interview and Q&A with Arlan Hamilton. And the cherry on top - I took some new headshots courtesy of Bumble Bizz.” -Summer Blanco at The Pride Center at Cal Poly Pomona

“ I had the honor and privilege to attend the State of Womxn of Color held by Future For Us and The Riveter in West LA. It was so amazing to be surrounded by women of color all driven to further their careers and fight for our place at the table by making our own.   We got to hear from Arlan Hamilton as she spoke about entrepreneurship and being the first black queer woman to create a venture capital firm from scratch. If you know anything about me, diversity and inclusion is one of my core values as a person and personal brand. It drives every decision I make, hoping to create a more inclusive and equitable space for people of color to be able to step into their own.  This event was just what I needed, just another affirmation for why I do what I do. Womxn of Color, this is our time.” - Kriselle Mendoza, Freelancer

“These spaces completely refill my cup. Jumped off a plane from New York and rushed to Zillow to celebrate Future For Us at their summer celebration and they did not disappoint - I’m all in.” -Janell Jordan, Womxn of Color in Tech
