Hi, I am Liz Johnson, Principal and Lead Designer of Liz Johnson Design Studio
I am a fashion designer by training and an interior designer by passion. I love creating spaces that evoke the ‘art of the possible’ - giving clients exactly what they want and need in ways they never imagined.
I’ve been designing interior spaces for more than 20 years while also working in corporate executive roles in digital media. Here’s when I knew that interior design was what I was meant to do.
A few years ago, my sister hired me to design a 1 bedroom beachfront condo with great views that she and her husband had just purchased in a wonderful community. The kitchen and bathrooms were woefully out of date and the living and dining spaces were small. She provided me with a link to the listing with pictures said she wanted more Miami Beach than Ocean City, and informed me of the budget for the project.
The challenge was intriguing, requiring a lot of creativity and imagination so I accepted. Using a coral colored swim dress to inspire the colors and evoke a true sophisticated casual beach condo, I transformed the space. The tiny kitchen is now stunningly modern, incorporating apartment & yacht sized appliances including a full size washer and dryer hidden inside lower cabinets. The bathrooms have been completely updated. I was able to create two zones in the living room, a cozy, yet ample dining nook and a modern entry hallway. They call it a sexy little package and I completely agree.
But the design itself is not the whole story. When my sister asked me to design the condo, I was on leave recovering from brain surgery. I never set foot in the condo. I created this design from the pictures and the measurements included in the listing. That I was able to present them with a beach home design that was at once sophisticated and casual, functioned beautifully for them and for entertaining guests and did not look like any beach condo they’d ever seen was nothing short of miraculous. That’s when I knew this is what I was meant to do.
I have three main objectives which require operating capital in order for my business to grow as I envision. They are:
1. Create a Liz Johnson Design Studio product line which would include bespoke furniture, textiles, decor and more.
2. Produce media programming with a focus on design, decorating, sustainability, for a variety of living lifestyles.
3. Develop a philanthropic arm of LJDS to give back to the community through design.
With your support, Liz Johnson Design Studio can and will be a thriving business serving people at all levels who appreciate the excellent service we provide and wish to live in a beautifully designed home.
