Hidden Gems Archery | Letting Dreams Fly
Bring Archery to the 5 Boroughs in New York

Project Description
MISSION

PROBLEM WE ARE SOLVING
The number one problem we are solving is a complete lack of access to nontraditional sports for students of urban schools, particularly African-Americans and Hispanic students.
- On a membership level, USA Archery shared that they are 20% of People of Color participating in the sport as members - which means paying a membership fee to participate.
- But, when you see their definition of People of Color it encompasses: African American/Black, Asian, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islander, and two or more races, and therefore not sharing the exact percentage for each group - this is not helpful!
- But, when we look at the report from the Geena Davis Institute in 2016 that wanted to show how entertainment increased archery participation amongst girls, we also come up against a dismal percentage for the representation of Black people in the USA Archery membership community and that is 1.9%....1.9%!
A PERCENTAGE THAT HIDDEN GEMS ARCHERY WANTS TO CHANGE!

- We know learning sports like archery can build self-efficacy and character in students.
- Having students from all races participating in archery provides the diversity of thought, authentic connections, and vibrant culture that is beneficial for all who participate in nontraditional sports such as archery.
- Lastly, let's consider the competitive pool in archery. How can you truly say you have a team that represents the USA when we are not identifying talents in all the communities around the country ... talent can be found in all communities around the US especially in the diverse communities of New York City.

HOW DO WE SOLVE THIS PROBLEM?
Hidden Gems Archery solves this problem by bringing archery to schools, setting up pop-up ranges in diverse neighborhoods of New York City, and increasing access to the sport by having no-cost sessions at community events - this is made possible by sponsors.
You can find Hidden Gems Archery setting up customized archery ranges in the urban communities of NYC and surrounding areas that are less than 2 hours away. We are solving one of the biggest problems our communities have....and that is ACCESS!

WHY THIS CAMPAIGN?
We are raising 25k on IFW to help fund the purchase of a new archery van. The van we had previously was broken into this past Memorial Day Weekend and the catalytic converter was stolen but also the steering column for the van was destroyed. The van has not been the same since and we have had problems with the van stalling and having to be taken to the mechanics continually. We know, when school starts back up, we want a reliable vehicle to get us from one location to another location.

THANK YOU!
Archery is such a fun sport, even saying the word archery makes you smile. That being said, on our campaign page we have various rewards ranging from archery-themed events, archery swag items, and lastly, a private virtual AMA session with the founder. Your support will help to grow the business and more importantly bring archery into the diverse neighborhoods of NYC and its surrounding areas.
