Project Description
The Economic Veterinary Initiative's mission is to provide low cost veterinary care to families in the Greater Cincinnati and Norther Kentucky areas. We believe in aiding the members of the community in caring for their pets, regardless of their financial status. Current economic times are difficult for a great number of Americans and those in the Cincinnati area are not without exception. Diminished income should not force people to stop caring for the animals they consider to be part of their family. While there are other facilities in the area that provide these services, many of them have a four to six month waiting period for their services. This is evidence of the marked need for more providers to help these animals get the care they need in a more timely manner.
Our clinic was founded in January of 2021 by Madison Schleibaum, a registered veterinary technician who has been in the field for more than twenty years. After working for clinics that put profit ahead of patients, she decided it was time to make a difference. Joined by doctors Laura Poirrier and Kylee Fent as well as fellow licensed veterinary Technician, Alexis Campanello-- all of whom shared the same vision-- the clinic was brought into fruition. In just the first operation eleven months of 2021, 280 families with more than 500 cats were helped. Now, in just the first quarter of 2022, we have already formed relationships with 176 new families in need of our services.
Unfortunately, our services are very limited to spays, neuters, vaccines, microchips, and other basic services. This is primarily due to our space limitations. We are currently borrowing 500sft from The Ohio Pet Sanctuary for our operation. This space is for animal housing, equipment and supply storage, as well as the surgical area itself. We need our own, larger space with a proper exam room to see patients, office area, waiting area, and better animal housing. This will allow us to expand our services to not only cats, but dogs and rabbits as well. In addition to the incorporation of new species, we will be able to see illness appointment such as urinary tract infections, respiratory problems, ear infections, and other issues that the people of Cincinnati need help finding affordable treatment for.
Our services are greatly needed. Our rapid and continued growth is proof of this. As long as there are families in financial need and Americans still value the human/animal bond, affordable veterinary care will always be vital.
The expansion of our services will allow us to make a greater impact on our community. But we cannot do this alone. We need your help to help these animals and the people who love them. We cannot thank you enough for your consideration and your contribution.

- We intend to lease our own space so that we can incorporate more services available to more species. If there is any additional contributed money, we would like to invest in upgraded equipment and a new surgery table.

- Currently we have two regular doctors and one relief veterinarian who fills in where needed.
