Help grow Brookside Ceramics
Bring old fashioned ceramics to Kansas City.
Project Description
I opened Brookside Ceramics in late October 2021 to fill a niche in our neighborhood of Kansas City, MO. I was 50 years old and had a 30+ year career in writing/editing/marketing.
I am the sole employee and would love to hire someone full time (or 2 part-time employees) for a few reasons.
First, I can’t expand my business without help. I’m so busy with day-to-day functioning that I don’t have time to create ceramics from the hundreds of vintage ceramic molds I’ve acquired. I will always rely on a supplier for much of my products, but by creating unique, vintage pieces, I can offer customers with items they can’t get anywhere else. In the “old days”, this is how ceramic shops were run. Today, most paint-it-yourself pottery studios rely on suppliers to import products from (mostly) China. Although I will probably never get away from depending on an outside source for products, I’d like to offer so much more.
Second, I’ve been working 80+ hours a week and I’m growing wary of continuing that pace, especially when I’d like to attend my daughters’ life events without having to close my studio for days to do so. I currently have a sophomore in college who is a nursing student and a senior in high school. I don’t want to miss their educational and personal milestones because I’m tethered to the day-to-day business.
Finally, I want to offer Kansas City an old-fashioned experience that is from a bygone era.
