1. What is hemp and how is it different from marijuana?

Hemp and marijuana are both part of the cannabis sativa family of plants. Cannabis sativa plants that contain <.03% THC (the high inducing molecule in marijuana) are legally considered hemp. Because of the low levels of THC, hemp plants will NOT produce the same euphoric high as marijuana plants.

2. Are hemp and CBD federally legal?

Yes! CBD that is derived from a hemp plant containing <0.3% THC, cultivated by a state authorized farmer under a state hemp program, is federally legal. Some states have different rules around the sale of hemp and hemp products so be sure to consider your states local laws.

3. What are cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds found primarily in cannabis plants and naturally occurring in the human body. There are over 113 known cannabinoids found in cannabis. Additionally, the human body produces its own set of cannabinoids. Those cannabinoids act like keys, fitting into the body’s system of cannabinoid receptors to release enzymes and unlock the body’s natural functions such as inflammation, pain regulation, digestion, and thyroid function.

4. What is the Endocannabinoid System?

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a system of receptors in the body that bind to cannabinoids to release enzymes that break down those cannabinoids, prompting a targeted response in the body. There are two main endocannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are primarily located in the central nervous system and to lesser extents in thyroid, liver, prostate, eyes, heart, stomach, pancreas, digestive tract, bones, and reproductive systems. CB2 receptors are primarily located in the lymphatic and immune system, skin, eyes, heart, stomach, digestive tract, pancreas, and bones.

5. What are terpenes?

Terpenes are aromatic oils produced by cannabis and other plants. Myrcene, a-pinene, limonene, linalool, and ocimene can all be found in certain strains of cannabis. Myrcene can also be found in mango, lemongrass and thyme while a-pinene can also be found in pine needles, rosemary, and basil. Some studies suggest that terpenes may aid in certain biological responses such as relaxation or focus.

CBD stands for cannabidiol, one of over 113 cannabinoids present in cannabis.

7. What is THC?

THC is short for delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, the famous cannabinoid responsible for the euphoric “high” associated with marijuana. Hemp contains extremely low levels of THC (<0.3%) and instead may have much higher levels of CBD and other cannabinoids which have no "high" effect.

8. What does “full-spectrum” mean?

Full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate hemp extract. These classifications refer to the cannabinoid or molecular profile in the extract. Full spectrum CBD extract contains CBD and all the other cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plant which could include THC, CBG, or CBN and can vary by strain.

9. What does “broad-spectrum” mean?

Full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate hemp extract. These classifications refer to the cannabinoid or molecular profile in the extract. Broad spectrum extracts may contain some or all of the same molecules as the full spectrum extract, except that the THC molecule has been removed.

10. What is isolate?

Full spectrum, broad spectrum, and CBD isolate hemp extract. These classifications refer to the cannabinoid or molecular profile in the extract. Hemp CBD isolate contains only the CBD molecule.

11. What is distillate?

Distillate is isolate with terpenes added back in after the distillation process.

12. What is Whole Plant/RSO Extract?

Whole plant is a type of cannabis extract that uses solvents like food grade alcohol to remove the compounds from the plant while preserving as much of the plant compounds as possible. Whole plant extracts contain the essential fatty acids, terpenes, chlorophyll, waxes, vitamin and minerals present in the original hemp plant.
