A Fire!! Up In Harlem

Well, hello!

My name is TK and I am the CEO/Founder of In Her Write Mind, LLC. In Her Write Mind is a multi-media company that tells often unheard stories through the written word, graphic design and, hopefully soon, film.  It aspires to hold a megaphone to the lips of those whose voices may be whispers. It seeks to inspire those who feel othered by advocating for them and, as I like to say, turning their other into excellence. Since its inception, I have run In Her Write Mind as a one-woman show and funded everything out of pocket. Under it, I have self-published 4 books of poetry and short stories and built up an impressive selection of branded merchandise.

Do you remember the part where I said "and hopefully soon, film"? That is where you come in. My next endeavor is to direct the first film under the In Her Write Mind imprint. The title of the film is A Fire!! Up In Harlem and it chronicles the lives of four Harlem Renaissance writers and how they and others came together to create Fire!! Magazine. I have always been fascinated by the story because it was such a pivotal time in history and has inspired so many projects that followed, but it remains a blip. It is the film I feel the world has needed for over a decade and not to brag, but I I feel like am the only one who can tell the story the way it deserves to be told. In order to do so, I'll need to raise $5000. I will use the funding to pay for filming, editing, wardrobe, hair and makeup on set. Initially, the film will reach an audience of about 1000-2000 people. As it is entered into more festivals and eventually on streaming services, the audience will grow.

These are my dear friends and family who recognize the fire (perhaps, pun intended) and passion I have for the project and have agreed to work for next to nothing. So in addition to telling the stories of these gigantic, influential figures who speak to my soul, I have the pleasure of highlighting these amazingly talented individuals.
