Mission:
Find Your/self Boxes was created to foster the connection between a loved one and their friend, partner, coworker, employee, or family member who may be working through mental health challenges by providing curated and customizable boxes filled with research-backed wellness products that promote healing.
The Why:
Sitting on my bed at my first treatment center, I watched as my family entered my room, unsure exactly what to say or do. I wasn’t sure what to say or do either. Mental health challenges don’t come with a guide for the person experiencing them or for the people around them. We were all timid at first, treading lightly with our words and our actions. But treading lightly doesn’t enable healing.
We had to dig deeper for healing. We found healing in small, but bold statements of love and support. I saw it in the letters and notes family and friends wrote for me while I was in the hospital. I saw it when my dad bought an UNO deck for us to use because he saw it was the only time I took part in the world outside of myself. I saw it every evening when a “song of the day” from my brother found its way into my inbox. It always contained music he thought would lift my spirit. I saw it when a friend picked out the cereal part of some Lucky Charms to leave a bag of marshmallows (the only good part) on my pillow when I came back from treatment one night. What I realized was these meaningful moments of engagement helped us all connect when my illness tried to sever all connections. Small gestures opened the door for deeper conversation.
I drew inspiration from these moments in my recovery and coupled that with professional guidance to create a box that would serve as a way to meet yourself and your friend, family member, partner, co-worker, or employee where they are. Instead of treading lightly, Find Your/self Boxes is a bold statement of support. We choose to not shy away from talking mental health, mental illness, and wellness on a full spectrum. Everyone has mental health so it’s time we talk about it. We know wellness doesn’t look the same for every person, so our mission is to create a customizable and curated box experience to meet many
What will I do with the money?
I am choosing now to raise money because I have spent the last year learning from the customers we have served thus far. Using that data and feedback I am aware that the company can do some incredible things to expand. This money will be used to expand our product line to address areas of self-care that are currently not being targeted.
The money will also go towards a program I am creating for hospitals and treatment centers to bring on the boxes as an intake or discharge package to make the transitions into and out of treatment less difficult.
It is also important for the company to bring on another employee. Doing so will allow for the business to expand more rapidly. I’m a one woman show, and I know I only have a limited number of hours in a day. By bringing on someone else I can more rapidly expand the reach of the company.
And finally, this money will go towards creating useful guides to ensure that when products are delivered they come with guidance to allow the receiver to maximize the healing benefits from their products. We don’t want to be another pretty box of products, we want to provide real value.
By contributing to this campaign you are not only making these goals more attainable for the business, but you’re also bringing hope to so many people. You’re giving people the chance to connect with those in their life in a way they might not have been able to before. You’re helping people who are healing understand that they are valued. And you’re helping to shatter the walls of stigma to build a community that welcomes everyone, regardless of how they identify or what stage of healing they are in. I cannot thank you enough for your donation. Together we will do big things. Together we are stronger.
