Feminist Pigs, a film by Jill Greenberg
In my short film seven women go full-on gangster vigilante on their male abusers.
Project Description
I'm going to be making a short film called Feminist Pigs, a comedy with a gang of vigilante women who roam the streets, hunting down the predators who hurt them. It will be hilarious eye candy aimed at making you both laugh and cry.
I have wanted to make this film since right after I graduated from RISD in 1989- just after I finished my thesis project called "The Female Object" about the panoptical and internalized male gaze, and its toxic effect on women in culture. So, it’s almost 30 years later and sadly it is still relevant. I say sadly because women still have lots to want to rebel against--and what could possibly be funnier than a bunch of women going full-on gangster.
The women perform acts that in the real world we might morally question, but in the fantasy make believe digital/celluloid world, no one actually gets hurt! Considering the Equal Rights Amendment never passed, this gang is practically justified in correcting the bad guys! Aren't you excited to see images of macho, "punk rock" women on the big screen who are completely in command, woman-spreading, who are NOT playing the victim, NOT being strangled or raped yet again on camera. Because those portrayals DO hurt people, and while male directors often frame this as harmless entertainment, such scenes are basically misogynistic hate-porn.
So while so many of us humans are frustrated by hearing of yet another case of an unbalanced power dynamic gone awry in the workplace or school, to the detriment of the woman, now you can do something about it! And by that I mean you can help fund this film so you can live vicariously through these women getting insane hilarious revenge on the fuckheads who assaulted them!
In Feminist Pigs, three diverse characters capture the men who attacked them at work or school. The limitations of the short film format will effect how much story we get to explore in just 15 minutes.
Imagine the female version of the characters from Reservoir Dogs and A Clockwork Orange. And all along the way, the characters stories and emotional depth will remain at the fore. The women are real, flawed, and vulnerable, we see they are clearly conflicted and ultimately at odds with their game plan to mortally harm their assailants.
You can, of course, give without a reward or give more than is displayed. I am truly thankful for any help and support donated. I am planning on substantially funding the production as well. Every cent will appear on screen, as better production values.

So who is Jill Greenberg, anyway?
Jill is a multi faceted artist who sees the world in a very specific way: a zesty mix of intense light, color and emotion, empathy, humor and intelligence.
Where can I see more of Jill's work?
Please check out jillgreenberg.com and Jill's Instagram, @jill.greenberg
Why is Jill qualified to make this film?
Jill has spent 30 years directing models and talent for her photo shoots. That talent ranges from professional actors, models, regular people, musicians, stars like Tom Cruise, James McAvoy, or Amy Schumer to corporate CEOs like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk. She is very comfortable working with actors on performance and delivery, and also knows how to crucial it is to "make the day" and get all the shots she needs, by working very quickly and efficiently, extensively planning ahead of time, and moving along quickly when she has gotten the shot.
Some of her productions are both photo and video and the crew numbers upwards of 100-150, she manages her sets with calm control. Moreover, if one named each role which she handles on a typical photo job, they would be as follows: director, director of photography, camera operator, focus puller, camera assistant, first assistant director, second assistant director, line producer, development, production accountant, pre-production, post production supervisor, color, and offline and online editing (personally by hand). So she is ready for the world of independent filmmaking.
She is involved in every aspect of her productions and Feminist Pigs will be no different. As a director, she has recently helmed broadcast spots starring Shonda Rhimes for Pilot Pens, commercials for Hasbro, Wyndham Hotels, progressive PSAs with Rachel Dratch, Lizzie Caplan, Aisha Tyler, Annabeth Gish and many more.
She studied film as well at RISD and in 1988 wrote and directed a short Super 8 film called "A Game for PJ"; in the 90s she directed music videos, and in the 2000's began working on digital content, a digital pilot for FOX "Felt Up", and of course motion key art, to go along with the print campaigns she photographed for 4 seasons of Orange is the New Black, as well as many other integrated print/video projects.
Her Production team consists of Marco and Zhana Londoner from Momentary Pictures , who produce TV as well as film in NYC for 17 years.
The production designer is David Snyder, the art director from Blade Runner and production designer from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.
The writer is Ashley Skidmore who is an LA based comedian.
What do you need $50,000 for?
Feminist Pigs is the film Jill Greenberg has been waiting thirty years to make. By raising money through iFundWomen we are able to make sure that we get to make the exact film we want to make, plus we will engage with the community of people who are interested in seeing the project come to fruition! We already have some of the funding, so plan to spend at least $75,000 to include the film's production, and all of the post, EFX, buying great songs, opening titles, marketing and film festival applications and travel. We want this film to be perfect and live up to the production values that Jill is accustomed to and that make her work so visually appealing. This will not be a low budget film, we want this to be flawless. Honestly the budget could easily be 175k. So we are hoping that this is successful. The more money we raise for this film the higher the production value will be!
Jill is working closely with writer Ashley Skidmore on the comedic take which will allow any messages to go down nice and easy.
What happens if you earn more than $50,000?
All of the money from the iFundWomen campaign goes directly to the film. We want this film to be perfect and live up to the production values that Jill is accustomed to and that make her work so visually appealing. This will not be a low budget film, we want this to be flawless. Honestly the budget could easily be 175k. So we are hoping that this is successful.
