Ethels Club
Ethels Club is a social and wellness club designed to celebrate people of color, online and IRL.
Project Description
MEET ETHEL'S CLUB
Ethels Club is a social and wellness club designed with people of color in mind. We believe that people of color deserve space, online and IRL, that centers and celebrates who they are. In 2019 we opened our Brooklyn clubhouse but closed doors in March to keep our community safe.
As people of color we lack representation in most spaces (on and offline) and often find ourselves on the outside looking in, or belonging to communities that do not fully embrace our celebration, language or spirit.
“People of color are often so familiar with navigating white spaces that even when there’s a possibility of bringing more of ourselves into a room, we simply don’t know how. We’ve assimilated to white cultural conditioning, and that assimilation has become part of our identity. While this can help us “get ahead,” the compromise is that we forget what it feels like to be our whole selves.”
- Kelsey Blackwell, author and activist
THE MISSION
Ethels Club was designed so that people could reclaim and redefine the parts of themselves that have been repressed and neglected. We provide a physical and digital space for members to build, empower and support one another.
At Ethel’s Club, we see our members as unique individuals that deserve care, celebration, and healing. When we’re given the tools to thrive as individuals, we create new worlds when we come together as a community. We believe that people of color deserve infinite space to heal & thrive.
ABOUT THE DIGITAL MEMBERSHIP
Since March we've offered a digital membership designed to keep our members connected with one another through daily workshops and classes, book clubs and the ability to chat with one another.
What does the world look like when it's built by a team of Black and brown folks who are invested in each other's well-being and joy? It's our mission and we want you to join the movement.
While our clubhouse is closed, its important that we continue to show up for our community and support all of the creatives building platforms and providing unique experiences.
We're committed to building Ethels Club for anyone who believes in the empowerment of our communities. This is a space for our voices, to be heard. When the community is nurtured and empowered, everyone benefits.
The funds from this campaign will go toward supporting local creatives through programming within the digital clubhouse and gifting memberships to folks building towards liberation and leading radical change within their communities.
