Start Lighthouse is on a mission to connect 4,000 Bronx public school students with 12,000 books in 2022.
Through our customizable Literary Adventure Program, students curate their own library from brand new, engaging, multicultural books that reflect the culturally diverse lives and experiences of their community.
They also meet authors and illustrators to learn more about their work and journey, exposing them to a world of possibilities. This is important because ultimately, you can't be who you can't see. And yet in the Bronx there is only 1 book for every 300 children.
Woke Activists: Start Lighthouse’s "Woke Activists” cultivates a safe space for students to join together to stand up against injustice. We begin by teaching students how multifaceted their own identities are so that they can begin building relationships and creating connections between themselves.
