My name is Aleisha Kelly, I am the Founder and CEO of 3 Kool Kings. I'm a single mom to three sons, an entrepreneur, and an indie author. I am based in Atlanta, Georgia, and am looking to raise $15,000.
3 Kool Kings is creating literature and products that inspire young black boys. I often see products that focus on encouraging little girls, but rarely see anything that inspires our boys. I want to change that by creating books and products that help to improve their self-belief and self-confidence.
Wordsrated.com states that " In 2020, 12.1% of children's books examined by the CCBC featured a black/ African main character and 7.6% were written by a black/ African author. ". As a mom, I understand how frustrating it is when trying to find a book that interests my children. There's nothing like being able to see images that represent you in literature. I've spoken to other mothers like myself, and they agree that there are not enough books that highlight black children as the main character. It saddens me that in the year 2023, we are still having conversations about the lack of black representation. All children deserve to see themselves represented in literature.
We recently launched our daily affirmation cards, inspirational apparel, self-guided journals, and our latest book ' Cameron Gets a Cut', authored and illustrated by me. The book will take young readers on a journey that will get them excited about their next trip to the barbershop. I am looking forward to donating copies of the book to local black-owned barbershops so that they can encourage children to read while getting a haircut.
3 Kool Kings needs your help to complete this vision and would love for you to assist us in empowering our young black boys across the globe. The funds received will go toward printing costs, shipping, book donations, and marketing.
Thank you for your time and your support!
