Everyone watches women's sports!
Project Description
Hello all!
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Angela, and as a proud Michigan native and sports lover, I am excited to share a vision that has the potential to revolutionize the way we celebrate women’s sports here in Michigan. I am passionate about creating a unique, inclusive space—a women’s sports bar that will shine a spotlight on the incredible athletes who continue to break barriers and redefine the world of sports.
Across the country, women’s sports bars are starting to gain traction. The first of its kind, The Sports Bra in Portland, Oregon, has captured the attention of sports fans and the media alike. As highlighted by Reset, the success of this venue underscores the strong demand for a space that prioritizes women’s sports. And the timing couldn’t be better: women’s sports have seen an incredible surge in both visibility and popularity, and the numbers are staggering:
- The 2024 Women’s College Basketball National Championship drew a record-breaking 18.7 million viewers.
- The 2024 WNBA regular season achieved over 54 million unique viewers and its highest attendance in 22 years.
- The WNBA Draft averaged 2.45 million viewers on ESPN, outperforming the 2023 MLB Draft (744K) and the NFL Draft (681K).
- The NWSL welcomed over 2 million fans across the 2024 season, with 89 matches surpassing 10,000 attendees.
- The Women’s College World Series Finals saw a 24% increase in viewership and set new attendance records.
- The Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano fight, the most-watched professional women’s sporting event in U.S. history, averaged 74 million viewers globally.
These incredible statistics, provided by togethxr, are proof of the soaring popularity and growing audience for women’s sports, both in the U.S. and globally. With this momentum, we have an unparalleled opportunity to tap into an underserved market and provide a dedicated space for fans to celebrate these athletes.
Why Now?
Why not?!
The Vision
This sports bar will be more than just a place to watch a game. It will be a celebration of women’s athletic achievements and a space where fans can gather, cheer on their favorite teams, and engage with a community that shares a love for sports and equity. We’ll feature screens showcasing women’s sporting events, decor honoring trailblazing athletes, and a diverse menu that caters to a wide audience.
Why It Matters
This project is about more than just filling a niche—it’s about addressing a critical gap in representation and inclusion within the sports and hospitality industries. As the overwhelming success of women’s sports in 2024 has demonstrated, the demand is there. Women’s passion for sports, combined with their incredible influence on consumer spending, makes this concept both timely and essential.
How You Can Help
I’m reaching out to you to ask for your support in bringing this vision to life. Donations will go directly towards the development and opening of this women’s sports bar in Michigan, a space that will not only celebrate women in sports but also help build a community around them. Your contribution will play an essential role in creating a lasting impact.
