Project Description

  • My name is Summer Nettles. I am a Black woman who was raised by a single, Black woman and Chief of Inspiration and Production at Greater Purpose Media. My mom was one of two Black nurses in her 1983 graduating class. I saw my mom ascend into more and more powerful positions in the medical field as I grew up, but her successes were always tempered by stories of discriminatory treatment. I would listen, transfixed, as my mom told me stories about white male doctors who tuned her out and white female nurses who quit because they didn't want to report to her. I didn't know it then, but she was preparing me for what I would encounter in the workforce. I started my own company and chose to tell this story so one day, the daughters of my loved ones (and my own daughter if I ever have one), won't have to tread so lightly in a White-led workplace that's walking all over them.

  • Greater Purpose Media (my company) is raising $550,000 to fund a six-episode documentary series that will air on Rocky Mountain PBS addressing the negative impact the traditional workforce has on Black women. Due to COVID many Black women business owners will be forced to return to a workforce they left to earn a better living and save their lives. We can help make the workplace a safer and more equitable place for Black women.
  • This series may air nationally, but has been green lit by Rocky Mountain PBS.
  • Greater Purpose Media (GPM) is raising $550,000 (total) to pay an ALL WOMAN OF COLOR production team to produce "She Quit" as well as fund the purchase of equipment and travel expenses.
  • GPM is crowdfunding $49,000 of the total goal. So individual donations REALLY help!
  • LONG TERM SOCIAL IMPACT via the "She Quit" series: GPM is working with 501(c)3 Truth and Conciliation to assess how people's perspectives change before and after they view the series via survey questions. We will use the answers to help professional organizations implement ACTUAL change in the workplace.
  • ALL donors who will be recognized in the end credits. Thank you for your support!!!
  • EIGHT shared-screen sponsors (who give $25,000 to $35,000) will appear in the opening credits of each episode of the documentary series with their co-sponsors. These donations are tax deductible if they are made via a check written to our fiscal sponsor. Please reach out for more details.
  • ONE title sponsor (a $250,000 donor) will get a title slide to themselves in every episode and be on the surveys given to professional organizations to evaluate organizational behavioral changes after screening the series.  This donation is tax deductible if it is made via a check written to our fiscal sponsor. Please reach out for more details.
