Crowdfunding my debut album!
Help me record the first Kayla Blackburn album <3

Project Description
Hi there! My name is Kayla Blackburn and I’m an indie-folk singer-songwriter based in Boston, MA. I just released my debut single. I’ve spent years engineering and mastering music for other artists, now I’m finally making my own debut album, and I need your help to make it happen! I’m raising $7,000 to fund studio time, production, musicians, and promo. If we raise more, I’ll be able to add more tracks, shoot a music video, and pay everyone equitably.
I studied audio engineering at Berklee during the odd times of COVID college and came out of the experience eager to do any hands-on work I could. I started working at a recording studio helping artists crowdfund their albums, just like this campaign! After some post-college burnout and writer’s block, I started writing songs that felt more emotionally connected than ever before. Now, I have a collection of songs written over the last seven years, since college, that I’m eager to share. I want to release this project now because I’m tired of putting my art on the back burner. Fans ask for my music and get YouTube performance links and playlists of my engineering portfolio instead. I deserve to give back to myself the quality of art and recording I help share with other artists.
This campaign is raising funds for my debut album, produced by Ainjel Emme in Joshua Tree, California. Ainjel is an incredible producer and engineer who’s worked with artists like Aly & AJ, John Legend, Charli XCX, and Kim Gordon. I may be a Boston-based musician, but Southern California is where I originally, and will always call home. I met Ainjel at Production Playhouse last July in Lebanon, TN. Production Playhouse is a transformative workshop designed to support women and gender-expansive individuals in songwriting and music production, fostering collaboration and community. I worked on my debut single Village with Ainjel remotely as a co-producer extraordinaire. This song is linked in a video on this campaign page.
A successful campaign would help me establish myself as a singer-songwriter and open doors to grow as a musician. I’ve spent a long time stuck thinking all my time would be for other artists and never for myself. Your support helps me believe that the support I’ve extended to others is possible for me to receive, too.
There are some fun perks only available through your contribution to this campaign, but regardless if you believe in me and want to see this album exist in the world, I’d love your support. If there is in anyone in your community that would be interested in supporting me, please feel free to share this page with them.

The Campaign FAQs
Where are you recording? Who will you be working with?
I’m recording my debut album in Joshua Tree, California with producer Ainjel Emme. I met Ainjel last year at Production Playhouse, a workshop that supports women and gender-expansive people in music, and we connected instantly. Ainjel co-produced my debut single Village remotely, and now we’re bringing the full album to life together in the desert, a place that feels like home to me.
Why does it cost $7,000? Where is my contribution going?
Making professionally recorded music costs much more than most people realize. Your support will cover:
Studio time in Joshua Tree
Production and engineering with Ainjel Emme
Hiring instrumentalists & collaborators
Mixing & mastering
Visual art, photography, and promotion
Every dollar helps me pay people fairly and create an album that fosters a creative space of equity, accessibility, and care.
When can we hear the record?
As a professional audio engineer, I can tell you: high-quality records take time. I’m aiming to release the album next year, but it might not be out until 2027. Trust me — it’ll be worth the wait. The more we raise, the sooner the music will be in your hands.
How can I support if I can’t give money right now?
Sharing this campaign with friends, family, or anyone who loves music means the world to me. The more people who know about the project, the better chance we have of making it happen. You can also follow me on social media to stay connected and share updates when they come.
