I’m Aksana, also known as 5Ksana: Bitcoin Artist🖼️ & Fashion designer.
I am a professional tailor (a person that cuts and sews) with over 22 years of experience! 🪡🧵

A talented seamstress makes $15-$20 an hour in the US, and my prices reflect that. A similar employee at a factory in China would make pennies.
I can’t compete with sweatshop prices, and I don’t want to.
People expecting big-box prices for handmade goods. And the sad truth is, most of the time those handmade goods are underpriced just to compete with this mindset. These customers don’t see the hours of design, standing in the fabric store deciding between fabrics, emails back and forth if someone wants a custom piece, and the hours of learning and refining the craft. It’s said that it takes 10,000 hours to become an expert on something. Since that first sewing class through today, I have accrued much more than 10,000 hours of sewing. When you buy handmade, you’re not just buying a dress or a purse. You’re buying the entire handmade experience. The next time you’re considering buying a handmade item, remember there’s a woman sitting behind a sewing machine in her basement, surrounded by mountains of fabric and years of experience, putting a piece of her soul into that item, hoping that you will get as much joy from the finished product as she gets from making it, and maybe she can pay some bills too.🤗🥰💞

💓With the help of kind and caring people during the COVID-19 pandemic, I made over 500 free two-layer DIY masks for kids. I used about 300 meters of fabric, 50 meters of elastic, and spent 200 hours making them!💓

Risks and challenges
😵💫 Risks and challenges: Unorganized sector. Low wages. Non availability of working capital. Exploitation by the middlemen. Limited marketing and export avenues and linkages. In most of the cases the Government schemes not reaching the genuine craftsmen. Direct competition from mills, power looms and organized units.
💪Solution: I will set up my company and brand called «BUY ₿». I’ll create an online store (e-commerce) because it’s cheaper than a physical shop. I’ll take good photos of my products (by hiring a pro photographer) and put them on the website. I’ll make sure to show what makes my business special, like if I have a great delivery system. Once the website is up, I’ll focus on online marketing, like SEO, ads, and social media. I’ll also start a customer loyalty program and run contests with free prizes.

Long-lasting design
To meet my standards of creating long-lasting, timeless products, I'm reducing the use of conventional materials and shifting to alternatives that generate fewer emissions and use less water, chemicals, and fossil resources, all while maintaining quality and longevity. That's why I pay special attention to the quality of materials as I transition to using more recycled, organic, certified, and other traceable, innovative options.
Sustainable materials
I try to use eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton, bamboo, or recycled materials whenever possible. This helps lower the environmental impact of each garment.
Environmentally friendly factories
I believe handmade items are better for the environment than mass-produced ones. I use fewer resources, create less waste, and often choose sustainable, local materials, which helps reduce transportation emissions. In contrast, mass production uses more energy, creates more waste, and often relies on harmful synthetic materials. That’s why I prefer handmade products-they have a smaller environmental impact.

What problem do you solve?
1) Fast fashion is the mass production of cheap, poor quality, disposable clothing. To give you an idea of the scale of the problem, the fashion industry churns out a gargantuan 80 billion garments a year - that's over 10 for every person on earth. And 400% more than it produced 20 years ago.
2) Fast Fashion And Water. A byproduct from textile factories in countries that produce fast fashion items en masse is untreated toxic wastewater. What’s wrong with it? It contains substances like lead, mercury and arsenic that are extremely harmful to aquatic and human life. It tends to be dumped directly into rivers. In Bangladesh alone, 22,000 tons of toxic waste from tanneries goes straight into the waterways a year. It destroys the health of the people and the wildlife who live along the banks and eventually runs into the sea and pollutes that as well.

Why Embroidery ?
Embroidery is a way for people to tell their stories when no one will listen, is a way to create a connection between different generations and discover a little more of our history, is a way to create outfits that are so special and unique, is a way to repair beautifully something that other people considered broken, is a way to understand that creating and finishing a garment requires time and much work, and sometimes it can be a way to calm the mind.

Art is about freedom, and Bitcoin stands for the idea of finance freedom . Through my art, I want to spread the word about Bitcoin, showing how it can change the world and encouraging others to look into new possibilities.
According to the World Bank, almost half of the world’s population does not use their bank accounts. Many millions of people have no access to banking services. These factors are partially responsible for poverty. Bitcoin can solve these issues and increase access to financial services. Moreover, it can also eliminate corruption and make the financial sector more transparent.
