Building the Quilt at Quilters Inspiration

Quilters Inspiration is a small local quilt shop in Grand Junction CO. The shop is a full service quilt shop offering classes for all ages and abilities, quilting supplies, and quilting fabrics; specializing in novelty fabrics, kids fabrics, and panels. We also have an area for people to sell their finished quilts and other handmade items. Quilters Inspiration has a 16 person classroom, kids playroom, and customer lounge/library.

Quilters Inspiration is active in the community. We donate quilts to our local foster kids and we are a pickup location for Kid’s Aide food distribution program. Once a year we raise funds to donate to one of our local first responder programs.

In 2019 I decided to open my own quilt shop. I found a nice building, centrally located, and in my lease price range. Unfortunately it did require some renovations to make it work for my purposes. I was finally able to open in March of 2020, the state shut down within days of my opening. In February of 2021 CDOT started road construction on the intersection where I am located. This road construction lasted through December of 2021.

I love the building and area I am in. This building is also special in that it has a large electrical capacity so there are not any problems when several sewing machines, irons, and extra lights are being used at the same time. However, the rent has doubled since I signed the lease 4 years aga and the owners have put the building up for sale. I am trying to get funding to buy the building to save money and continue business in this location. My business is growing, but due to circumstances, I do not have the credit for this kind of loan.

I did not qualify for and have not received any COVID funding to help during this adventure and have paid all expenses out of pocket, with short term loans and loans from my wonderful family. The money raised here will go to buying the building which will also allow me to hire employees and expand my business.
