Project Description

Urban Skin Rx is making clinical skincare inclusive and accessible through mass Urban Skin Rx and prestige Pro StrengthTM collections

üUrban Skin Rx was among the first brands to offer effective, clinical skincare products focused on skin of color

üToday USRx offers over 40 products for every skin type and concern, with 12,000+ 5-star reviews and numerous industry awards from Essence, Latina, Allure, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Teen Vogue, Men’s Health and others

üEasily accessible with 1.6M+ visitors to Urbanskinrx.com in 2023; $3.3 million in sales on Amazon, and approximately 7,500 retail doors across Target, ULTA, Walmart and CVS

üMy goal is for Urban Skin Rx to be the first black female owned aesthetician-founded, clinically based skincare brand on the market

We are bringing skincare expertise for hyperpigmentation and deeper skin tones to the mass market.  These claims are supported by 3rd party independent studies and industry awards

What are the Problems?

  • Skin conditions such as acne, ingrown hairs, eczema, melasma and dermatitis impact melanin-rich skin differently and improper treatment of these conditions on darker skin tones can result in post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (“PIH”)
  • Products that are formulated to treat PIH for lighter skin tones, “…may not work, because [melanin-rich skin’s] dark spots are much more pigmented and harder to improve,“ according to Dr. Heather Woolery-Lloyd, board-certified dermatologist and a member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine
  • Ingredients that generally work to fade skin discoloration may cause “ghosting” or a lightening effect around targeted areas in darker skin if not treated correctly
  • The sunscreen/SPF category has not been inclusive of deeper skin tones, as most products leave a white or purple cast on skin
  • 63% Of women of color feel ignored  by the beauty industry
  • 20% Of beauty consumers specifically seek out brands that promote diversity
  • 47% Of dermatologists feel their medical training didn’t prepare them to treat Black skin
How does USRX address the Problem?

  • Creates and curates formulas that specifically target skin susceptible to hyperpigmentation
  • USRx works with leading retail partners to have products on shelves in all key multicultural markets across the US
  • Products are easily accessible online thru Urbanskinrx.com and Amazon
  • USRx website and virtual consultations help consumers create a personalized routine
  • Offer a full line of in-stock products specifically to address the needs of multicultural consumers
