Project Description
Basic Brown Nerds is building a multimedia platform aimed to elevate Black & Brown people in STEAM (Science, Tech, Arts, Engineering, and Mathematics). We are taking back our narratives.
We are often told we are "not ___ enough", that we are "white-washed" and often feeling like we don't belong in our own communities and not seeing people like us in our fields and industries.
We are the multi-cultural nerds and are rising. We are tired of being a model minority and also tired of being the "only", the "token". "Minorities" are set to be the majority in a few years and we are here to elevate and excite people about STEAM and show we're not your average nerd. We are nerds who also like brunch & making moves.
Basic Brown Nerds is Latina-founded but we want to tell the stories of people of color everywhere. For most of us, we are multicultural and our history has been erased. We are in an increasingly globalizing society and our goal is to ensure we celebrate and keep recovering our ancestors stories for generations to come.
Our mission is to share and highlight amazing stories of folks and keep having discussions that make us learn, think, and create a chain reaction to create a better society for all of us.
We are crowdfunding to take Basic Brown Nerds to another level! In the last three years, we have led several in-person and virtual events, connected people across the nation, reached over 50,000 downloads, partnered with creators, and gave a platform to folks from all different walks of life and industries.
However, this is only the beginning. We aim to do more! By fundraising, we will be able to create season 3 of Basic Brown Nerds and bring on a team to keep producing and fact-checking content via our blog, podcast, and social media channels. Our aim is to create high quality educational content that gets our brain spinning.
Your investment will help us continue to educate and entertain Black and Brown folks as we navigate the world we live in together. We can't make this happen without your help!
